Government Tightens Security Ahead of New Year Celebrations

JAKARTA – Ahead of the New Year celebrations, the government through the Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs (Menko Polkam) is holding an evaluation to ensure that public security and order are maintained.

In this evaluation, Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs, Budi Gunawan, expressed his appreciation to the TNI, Polri, Ministry of Communication and Digital (Komdigi), Ministry of Transportation, local governments, and all related parties for their dedication in maintaining public comfort.

“We express our appreciation to all parties who have worked hard to maintain the security and comfort of the community, especially in welcoming the New Year celebrations,” he said.

The Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs also highlighted the importance of communication services, especially in areas affected by disasters due to extreme weather. He asked Komdigi and telecommunications operators to ensure stable networks in disaster-prone areas.

“We ask Komdigi and telecommunications operators to ensure network stability in disaster-affected areas. Reliable communication connections are crucial to support the rescue and coordination process in the field,” he explained.

In addition, he reminded the public and security forces to be aware of the circulation of counterfeit money which is predicted to increase during this period.
“We urge the TNI and Polri to tighten supervision of the circulation of counterfeit money, especially in crowded locations such as markets and shopping centers,” he explained.

He also appealed to the public to be careful when making transactions, especially in cash.

“Make sure the money received is genuine. If you find any indication of counterfeit money, immediately report it to the authorities,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Bali Police have also tightened security at several entry points ahead of the Nataru celebrations. Bali Police personnel involved in securing the Great Candle Operation will increase security at five main entry points to Bali, such as I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport, Benoa Denpasar Port, Gilimanuk Jembrana Port, Padangbai Karangasem Port, and Celukan Bawang Buleleng Port.

Head of Public Relations of the Bali Police, Senior Commissioner Jansen Avitus Panjaitan, stated that the Bali Police will provide open and closed security for 24 hours at these gates.

Strict checks on vehicles, luggage and people entering Bali will be carried out to prevent the entry of prohibited items or suspicious activities.

“Police personnel will conduct thorough checks on vehicles, belongings, and every individual entering Bali. This focuses on efforts to prevent the entry of prohibited goods or suspicious activities,” he explained.
