The President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, has emphasized his commitment to eradicating online gambling in the country. The Palace through the Minister of State Secretary (Mensesneg), Prasetyo Hadi, revealed that the President has given a firm order regarding the handling of this problem, with an emphasis on strong and comprehensive law enforcement.
“As conveyed by the President, his first spirit is that online gambling must be resolved immediately, we eradicate it. He wants to enforce the law as strongly as possible,” said Prasetyo,
He also emphasized that President Prabowo is very serious in dealing with this issue. According to him, the problem of online gambling must be handled quickly and firmly to protect the public from the negative impacts it causes.
Regarding the alleged involvement of government officials in the online gambling case, Prasetyo emphasized that this matter would be completely handed over to law enforcement officials.
“Everything is returned to legal facts, everything is returned to law enforcement officers,” said Prasetyo.
As a follow-up to the President’s direction, a number of related officials have been asked to work together to handle this problem, including Attorney General Sanitiar (ST) Burhanuddin, National Police Chief General Pol Listyo Sigit Prabowo, and Minister of Communication and Digital Meutya Hafid.
The Attorney General’s Office itself has expressed its readiness to synergize with the Ministry of Communication and Digital (Kemenkominfo) in overcoming online gambling practices that are disturbing the public.
Meanwhile, Attorney General Burhanuddin confirmed that the online gambling case is currently under investigation.
“For the online gambling case, it is currently still under investigation. However, in the future, we will synergize the prosecution with the relevant ministries so that this problem does not recur and does not harm the community,” said Burhanuddin.
On the other hand, the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs (Menko Polkam), Budi Gunawan, stated that the government will not tolerate online gambling perpetrators, including officials involved in online gambling mafia networks.
“There is no tolerance for anyone involved, be it the perpetrator or an official. All will be processed according to the President’s orders,” said Budi Gunawan.
Budi also added that the disclosure of online gambling cases does not only target the main actors, but also involves investigations into activities and infrastructure, including the payment systems used in online gambling transactions.
