The presence of members of Parliament from various countries at the 144th session of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in Bali proved Indonesia’s potential in influencing international policy. The first thing that proves that Indonesia is getting the world’s attention is the realization of a well-organized world-class assembly, so that the world’s trust in Indonesia can continue to increase.
Of course with this, it is also very likely that Indonesia as the host can be much more listened to when expressing an opinion in the trial. The Chairperson of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, also expressed great hope regarding this matter. He stated that Indonesia must play a role in solving various current global problems.
This role can be taken by Indonesia through its intervention in policy formation at the world level during the process of implementing the 144th IPU session. Of course, in the future, the whole discussion will not only end as a discussion, but must also be implemented in real terms.
As the host, Indonesia directly opened the 144th IPU trial procession which then automatically made Indonesia the chair of the trial. It is hoped that Indonesia can actually achieve all the resolutions that have been discussed, and be able to control the flow of the trial by raising several important global issues.
With the large number of participants from various parts of the world, it is one clear proof that Indonesia is indeed trusted by the world because it is considered a safe and comfortable place to hold the 144th IPU event.
Previously, as stated by Hafisz Tohir as Deputy Chair of the House of Representatives Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Agency (BKSAP), that the large number of participants who attended from various countries was proof that Indonesia had a very strategic role for the world. Moreover, with all the positive images that have been pursued and built so far, Indonesia is increasingly confident to show its fangs in the international world.
In general, the discussion room was opened by Puan Maharani by following the dynamics of the trial. Indonesia has also prepared several agendas or issues that will be discussed and resolved with the world’s parliaments, so that they will be able to influence international policy.
Some of the policies that will be championed and raised at the world conference are the issue of climate change, which is also the big theme of the 144th 2022 IPU event. Puan added that Indonesia will also raise the topic of the Covid-19 pandemic, which has not yet ended.
Furthermore, another topic that will be raised by Indonesia to influence international policy is on gender equality, democracy and the fulfillment of human rights, which recently has become a hot issue due to the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. Followed by being more specific is the discussion about safeguarding world peace and security so that the world can be united and there will be no more divisions that actually make human existence even more threatened.
Optimism was also conveyed by Jazuli Juwaini as a Member of the House of Representatives’ Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Agency (BKSAP) who said that with the appointment of Indonesia as the host of the 144th IPU congress, it would automatically become an arena for us to be able to take part in all efforts to handle the world crisis. Therefore, the entire Parliament must be able to voice the conscience of the world in order to create a future that is far more peaceful, just and prosperous.
