Joint Forces Continue to Ensure Papua’s Security Stability Ahead of Regional Elections

Jayapura – The Papua Regional Police continue to increase security efforts ahead of the 2024 Pilkada in the Papua region. Through the Weekly Analysis and Evaluation (Anev) meeting of the Mantap Praja Cartenz-2024 Operation, the Deputy Chief of the Papua Police, Brigadier General Pol. Dr. Faizal Ramadhani, together with the Papua Police leadership discussed strategic steps to ensure security stability in Papua during the regional head election process.

The evaluation held in the Cenderawasih Hall was attended by a number of key officials, including the Inspectorate of the Papua Police, Senior Commissioner of Police Drs. Yosi Muhamartha, Karo Ops of the Papua Police, Senior Commissioner of Police I Ketut Gede Wijatmika, SIK, and representatives of the Police in Papua. In his direction, Brigadier General Faizal emphasized the importance of conveying the obstacles faced in the field and reminded all ranks to carry out their duties according to the established Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).

“This activity must also be a reference for the implementation of Ops Mantap Praja Cartenz-2024,” said Brigadier General Faizal.

In addition, the police will carry out operational supervision activities (Wasops) throughout Papua and the New Autonomous Regions (DOB) to ensure the readiness of the Pilkada implementation in four provinces, namely Papua Induk, Central Papua, Papua Pegunungan, and South Papua.

“For the Pilbup Wasops, the Papua Regional Police (Main) is in Jayapura City Police, the Central Papua Regional Police in Nabire or Timika. The Papua Mountains Regional Police in Jayawijaya, and the South Papua Regional Police in Merauke,” said Kombes Yosi.

Ahead of the regional elections which are only 20 days away, Karo Ops Polda Papua, Kombes Pol I Ketut Gede Wijatmika, emphasized the importance of immediately handling any logistical obstacles, especially in Central Papua which experienced delays due to the change of deputy governor candidates.

“Regarding logistical issues, please coordinate well with the Election organizers/KPU, TNI, and regional government elements, and thank you for the coordination that has been going well so far,” he explained.

Support also came from local traditional figures. Marianus Magnaiteku, the Kamoro Tribe Chief in Timika, expressed his appreciation for the efforts of the Cartenz 2024 Peace Operation Task Force in maintaining security in Papua, especially in vulnerable areas.

“I really appreciate the Cartenz 2024 Peace Operation Task Force in maintaining public order and security in Papua,” said Marianus.

He highlighted the success of the Cartenz 2024 Peace Operation Task Force in building close relations with traditional and religious figures, which is considered an important step in creating a harmonious atmosphere in Papua.

Meanwhile, Head of Public Relations Task Force for Cartenz Peace Operation 2024, Senior Commissioner of Police Dr. Bayu Suseno, emphasized the commitment to continue maintaining a peaceful situation in Papua ahead of the regional elections.

“We will continue to try to prevent any potential conflict, especially ahead of the 2024 Pilkada. Our commitment is to keep Papua peaceful and safe,” said Kombes Bayu. ><
