The Indonesian Vice President Reminds All Parties to Take Care of the 2024 Election from Polarization
All parties without exception are obliged to protect the 2024 General Election (Pemilu) from polarization. Indonesian Vice President (Wapres) Ma’ruf Amin also reminded this so that in the future this could lead to peaceful and cool elections.
Approaching the upcoming 2024 election year, it is indeed very vulnerable to various kinds of threats coming to divide the unity and integrity of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI) both from within and outside. Therefore, all levels of society are obliged to take care of any matters that are related or have the potential to destroy this unity. Particularly in today’s political world, where there is also a lot of potential for polarization to occur. Conditions like this will always exist, but we should all be vigilant and careful.
The phenomenon of polarization is indeed a dangerous thing and needs to be watched out for. Vice President (Wapres) Ma’ruf Amin also reminded about the potential for sharp polarization ahead of the 2024 Election. He hopes that this sharp polarization will not occur even though there are various kinds of views that exist. Therefore, the man who is also referred to as a cleric also asked all parties to participate in the election process with the applicable provisions.
In fact, he also hopes that the 2024 Election will become a political contestation full of friendship, joy and of course mutual respect for opinions. It is also important to be aware of yourself so that this polarization does not occur even though there are indeed many coalitions.
Regarding political polarization, it was not only the Vice President who warned, related parties such as the General Election Supervisory Body (Bawaslu) together with the Indonesian National Police (Polri) also continued to try to prevent polarization which would lead to chaos and the threat of division.
Efforts continue to be made to prevent hate speech, black campaigns, and racist issues related to the upcoming 2024 General Elections. The reason is, in 2019 this polarization became a frightening specter for the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia, therefore this prevention continues to be carried out so as not to repeat the same thing and the people of all Indonesia exercise their rights properly without any coercion and without any disputes if they have different political views.
Bawaslu chairman Rahmat Bagja said that together with the National Police, they are ready to provide protection, security, protection and service to election organizers and the public, reflecting on the problems that occurred before. Not only that, related parties, especially the National Police are also expected to have and maintain an attitude of neutrality in the upcoming 2024 General Elections.
In accordance with Law Number 2 of 2002 article 28 paragraph 1 it stipulates that the Indonesian National Police is neutral in political life and does not involve itself in practical political activities. How could it not be, indeed the National Police has an important and crucial role to guard at every stage of implementation as well as the security and comfort of situations and conditions that also depend on the Police. That’s why the synergy between Bawaslu and the National Police is really needed in order to create a conducive and peaceful election. Apart from that, another synergy was also formed, namely between the Bawaslu, the National Police, and the Attorney General’s Office through the Gakkumdu Sentra which equates each other’s perceptions of matters that go into election criminal acts as well as their handling.
Neutrality towards the 2024 Election must be maintained, especially for parties who have an important role in the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia. Apart from Bawaslu and Polri, the Attorney General’s Office also has an important role to play in maintaining its neutrality. The Attorney General has an important role to play in reminding prosecutors to avoid things that are not neutral and maintain their neutral attitude so that irresponsible persons do not take advantage of them.
Deputy Attorney General Sunarta conveyed an important mandate from the Attorney General to Adhyaksa personnel to avoid election polarization which made the people uneasy. There are several things that must be done to prevent this polarization. Among the first, namely, through the mapping of potential threats, disturbances, obstacles and challenges (AGHT) in the election process.
He said that the next step that must be taken by prosecutors is to identify and take an inventory of all forms of potential election crimes before, during implementation, or after implementation. This is because if there is no such special treatment, there is potential for the Attorney General’s Office to be used as practical political tools by certain parties. Therefore, in order to avoid these things, it is necessary to handle it and need to have a reminder so that the Attorney General can always uphold neutrality in the 2024 Election.
By maintaining and upholding the existing neutrality, threats such as black campaigns to sharp polarization can be prevented. Of course this is not only done by one party, but all Indonesian people should be aware of and guard against being incited to things that can divide our unity and oneness.
Moreover, at this time Indonesia really should have a program for the future, namely towards Advanced Indonesia 2045, therefore it would be better to avoid things that hamper Indonesia’s growth. Let’s move forward together and realize a peaceful, safe, secure and prosperous 2024 election.
