A number of people continue to give very strong and firm criticism of the idea of the people power movement. They all demanded that Rocky Gerung be investigated and arrested by law enforcement officials as soon as possible because the actions he had taken had greatly harmed many parties and had the potential to further divide the integrity of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia.
Many of the masses came from Volunteers supporting the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo (Jokowi) on Thursday 3 August 2023 and took action directly at the Metro Jaya Regional Police (Polda) Headquarters (PMJ). Regarding the action, the Java Action Supervisor, Oscar Pendong, stated that his party demanded that political observer Rocky Gerung be arrested immediately.
Their aim was to go directly to the Headquarters of the Indonesian National Police (Mabes Polri) and to the Polda Metro Jaya Headquarters is to continue to urge the ranks of the police to make arrests. Of course, there is no reason why this pressure occurred and was immediately intensified.
The reason is that Rocky Gerung was suspected of committing hate speech, in which he conveyed this expression in public spaces and also in digital spaces and also even incited all people in Indonesia to carry out a mass movement entitled People Power.
It turned out that the action carried out by many volunteers supporting President Jokowi was not only held at the National Police Headquarters and Polda Metro Jaya, but was also held simultaneously in several locations, namely the Bekasi Police Resort (Polres) and the Tangerang Police.
In a very firm manner, they voiced an immediate arrest of this philosopher because in the future there should be no more figures like Rocky Gerung who openly insult the national symbol and also clearly insult the dignity of the Head of State. Also included, he even instigated the public to carry out the action of the people power movement which of course would have a lot of negative impacts.
After receiving many reports from various parties to the political observer, the Directorate of Special Criminal Investigation (Ditkrimsus) Polda Metro Jaya immediately conducted a deeper investigation. In this regard, the Chief Commissioner of Police (Kombes Pol) Ade Safri Simanjuntak stated that his party would provide clarification to the reporting party and also to the witnesses.
Several steps have been taken at this time by the ranks of the security apparatus from the Indonesian National Police (Polri), in particular from the investigation team of the Ditreskrimsus Polda Metro Jaya who are currently carrying out a series of investigative activities on the presence of 2 (two) reports to the police regarding the name Rocky Gerung. with allegations of the crime in question. The police also continue to coordinate effectively with other experts.
The Ditreskrimsus Polda Metro Jaya itself admits that currently it has received as many as 2 (two) reports related to allegations of insulting the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo. The report came from Volunteer Jokowi, where they reported the existence of alleged criminal acts that occurred and also brought a complete amount of evidence.
Criticism from the public did not only come from Jokowi volunteers who really wanted the legal apparatus to immediately take firm action and thoroughly investigate the Rocky Gerung case, but because of allegations of hate speech that had been made by the 64-year-old man to the Head of State for the transfer of Mrs. State cities (IKN) have also inflamed a number of other circles.
A number of social organizations (ormas) and also a combination of Labor Unions in Berau Regency, East Kalimantan Province immediately staged a demonstration in front of the Berau Police yard on Jalan Pemuda, Tanjung Redeb on Friday, August 3 2023. During the demonstration, they also shouted that there was speeches and asked the police to carry out a thorough investigation into the alleged case of hate speech that had come out of the mouth of the political observer.
One of the representatives of the demonstrators from the united Berau community alliance, Erdianto Adi Susilo said that the demonstration carried out by his party was indeed aimed at urging a thorough investigation into the case of alleged hate speech that was raised by Rocky Gerung and was considered to have insulted the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo with utterly inappropriate words.
The existence of a thorough investigation is indeed a very important thing to be carried out and realized, especially by law enforcement officers against anyone who has been proven to have spread hate speech, instigated to insult the Head of State, including even Rocky Gerung. What’s more, he also initiated and invited a number of other masses to carry out a people power movement which is clearly not a good thing at all and has only further divided the nation.
