The Central Government and the Papua Provincial Government continue to work together to strengthen the implementation of PON XX in Papua. Papua Province is also considered ready to host PON XX in line with venue readiness and various other strategic aspects.

The Central Government through the Ministry of Youth and Sports continues to monitor preparations for the implementation of XX PON 2020 which will be carried out in Papua. This was done because Kemenpora wanted the PON XX 2020 event to run successfully. To achieve this, the Ministry of Youth and Sports has made the PON XX 2020 event a daunting task that must be shared jointly. This success must be achieved because it will be part of the implementation of the government’s big vision, especially the responsibility of the Ministry of Youth and Sports in the national development of youth and sports.

During a working visit to Jayapura, Papua, the Minister of Youth and Sports (Menpora), Zainudin Amali said that preparations had been made in several venues, and the remaining months would be utilized by the Government of Papua to complete all supporting facilities. Looking at the preparations that have been made, the Central Government is optimistic that Papua will successfully organize PON XX in 2020. It is hoped that there will be no obstacles in the future so that all contingents from outside Papua can be well served and compete calmly.

Jayapura Regency will be the host in the opening ceremony of the 2020 PON XX 2020. To make this a success, Jayapura Regency Government continues to coordinate with PB PON to prepare all the needs ahead of the opening ceremony. As additional information, three new arenas that will begin to be built after the issuance of Presidential Instruction No. 1 of 2020, can also be completed before October 2020. Therefore, the community does not need to doubt the preparations made by Papua as a good host to welcome PON XX 2020.

Related to the security issue, the Head of the State Intelligence Agency (BIN) Budi Gunawan said that besides conducting hazard mapping, BIN had carried out a preventive operation by cutting off all forms of potential that could disturb security during the holding of PON XX in Papua. Detection activities and other potential vulnerabilities continue to be carried out by BIN as part of a joint operation in order to prevent them from becoming a real disturbance. On the other hand, TNI Commander Marshal Hadi Tjahjanto said that the TNI would strengthen the security of the four XX 2020 National Sports Week (PON) venues in Papua. The TNI is also ready to guarantee security for the success of the PON 2020 by increasing the number of troops in several places, especially in the four venues as the venue for the event. TNI-Polri and BIN will finalize the security readiness plan ahead of the implementation of the 2020 PON in Papua. The TNI, together with the National Police and BIN, believe that the implementation of the PON can run well without any obstacles. The TNI will also anticipate in the event of heavy rain which causes floods, landslides and includes the potential for long droughts such as BMKG.

These security activities have received support from the DPR. DPR Speaker Puan Maharani said the DPR supported BIN and the TNI-Polri to maintain Papuan security when the PON and Peparnas were held. The DPR supports all steps taken by BIN and the TNI-Polri to guarantee security in Papua province, especially in the districts / cities that are organizing the event.

Besides Jayapura, Merauke Regency is also one of the regions that will participate in organizing the XX 2020 PON. All venues to be used for the event have been completed two months earlier than the specified target. This can be achieved thanks to good coordination between the Provincial Government of Papua, and the Central Government through the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing.

The Indonesian National Sports Committee (KONI) will continue to oversee the construction of the XX National Sports Week (PON) venue in Papua. The aim is to ensure that development progress is completed on time. Chairperson of KONI Pusat, Marciano Norman said, the Futsal field was ready to be used for PON XX 2020. Meanwhile, for the Baseball venue in Auri, Jayapura Regency and the Tennis court at the Jayapura Mayor’s Office it was believed that it could be completed according to a predetermined schedule.

The development progress has increased optimism that Papua will make history as a national multi-event sports organizer. One indicator of the success of achievement is expected in Papua will break many national records in various sports that are contested. Whereas in terms of accountability administration can be easily known and accepted by the public, and economically it is certain to have a direct impact with the large number of contingents who will overwhelm Papua from all provincial representatives in Indonesia.
