17+8 Public Demands Addressed, Parliament Takes Over Initiative on Asset Seizure Bill

JAKARTA — The House of Representatives (DPR) has officially taken a strategic step by adopting the Asset Seizure Bill (RUU Perampasan Aset) as a parliamentary initiative.

This decision underscores that the 17+8 public demands are gradually being met in concrete terms, while also reflecting the seriousness of both parliament and the government in listening to and acting upon the aspirations of the people.

Coordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights, Immigration, and Corrections (Menko Kumham Imipas) Yusril Ihza Mahendra stated that the DPR’s move marks a significant shift from a government initiative to a parliamentary-led one.

“President Prabowo has also repeatedly emphasized that the DPR should move quickly to deliberate on the bill,” Yusril said in an official statement.

He stressed that the government has already coordinated with Minister of Law Supratman Andi Agtas to ensure the Asset Seizure Bill is included in the 2025–2026 National Legislation Program (Prolegnas) priority list.

Yusril added that the government is ready to discuss the draft whenever the DPR submits it.

“If the initiative is taken up by parliament, of course the government will wait,” he said.

“Once the DPR submits the bill to the President, the President will issue a Presidential Letter to appoint the minister responsible for deliberating on the Asset Seizure Bill until its completion,” Yusril explained.

Meanwhile, Deputy Chair of the DPR’s Legislative Body (Baleg), Ahmad Doli Kurnia, also stressed the parliament’s readiness.

He noted that with the revision of the Prolegnas, it is highly feasible to prioritize the Asset Seizure Bill.

“It’s very possible. If there’s already an agreement between the DPR and the government, then it’s just a matter of sitting down together, reviewing the previous Prolegnas, and inserting it,” Doli said.

He added that Baleg is fully prepared if the initiative is handed over to parliament.

“From drafting the academic manuscript to preparing the bill itself, we will carry it out in line with the legislative process,” he explained.

Similarly, Minister of Law Supratman Andi Agtas emphasized that asset seizure is a government priority, in line with President Prabowo Subianto’s directive.

“Asset seizure will be a priority. As for its status in parliament, as you know, we are currently working to finalize the next Prolegnas for 2026,” he stressed.

The DPR’s move to take over the initiative for the Asset Seizure Bill demonstrates concrete proof that both parliament and the government are genuinely listening to and addressing the voice of the people.
