Jakarta – The government has reaffirmed its serious commitment in responding to the wave of demonstrations that took place in late August 2025. President Prabowo Subianto emphasized that the government remains open to dialogue with the public and is ready to follow up on the aspirations voiced, including calls for the establishment of an Independent Investigation Team to thoroughly probe the death of Affan Kurniawan and other victims.

President Prabowo underlined that public demands must be carefully examined. According to him, there are several normative points that can be discussed constructively through negotiations or open debate.

“We will study them; some are reasonable and open to discussion. There are normative matters that can be properly addressed through negotiations or healthy debate,” he said.

One of the most prominent demands is the creation of an Independent Investigation Team. President Prabowo considered the proposal logical and appropriate to be pursued further. He expressed support for reviewing the idea in more detail, including the mechanisms and structure of the team to be formed.

“If it’s an independent investigation team, I think that makes sense. We’ll just need to see what form it will take,” Prabowo added.

The President stressed that every step taken by the government will always be grounded in the mandate of the 1945 Constitution. This, he noted, serves as the main guideline in safeguarding justice, transparency, and accountability of the state.

“I will carry out the duties entrusted to me by the Constitution,” he asserted.

Meanwhile, the House of Representatives (DPR) has also moved swiftly to respond to public pressure. Rieke Diah Pitaloka, a member of the DPR’s Public Aspiration Body, revealed that the process of forming the Independent Investigation Team is currently underway.

“The investigation team is being formed, the process is ongoing,” she said.

The demand for the team emerged as part of the “17+8 Demands” that have gained traction in the public sphere. Under these demands, the government is expected to meet 17 short-term points before the September 5, 2025 deadline, as well as eight long-term points within one year. Among the most urgent demands is a transparent investigation into the case of Affan Kurniawan and all victims of police violence during the demonstrations on August 28–30, 2025.

The concrete step taken by the government together with the DPR to prepare this independent team serves as tangible proof of the state’s seriousness in guaranteeing openness, justice, and the protection of citizens’ rights. With the establishment of an independent team, public trust in the handling of demonstrations is expected to strengthen further.

The government is committed to ensuring that every public aspiration will be addressed with concrete measures, without undermining national stability and development. Transparency and accountability will serve as the foundation to prevent similar incidents from recurring, while also reinforcing the principles of healthy democracy in Indonesia.
