19th PUIC Conference: OIC Parliaments Agree to Strengthen Cooperation in Addressing Global Challenges

Jakarta – The 19th Conference of the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States (PUIC), held at the Nusantara Building in Jakarta, resulted in key agreements on the strategic role of Islamic parliaments in promoting global peace and enhancing inter-state cooperation.
President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, emphasized the crucial role of PUIC as a parliamentary bridge to foster peaceful solutions to global conflicts.
“This union of Islamic parliaments was born from the collective awareness that the Islamic world needs a platform for parliamentary solidarity to face global challenges and to defend the interests of Muslims wherever they are,” said President Prabowo in his address.
He reaffirmed that the organization is increasingly relevant amidst growing geopolitical tensions and rivalries among major powers.
The President also reiterated Indonesia’s position in promoting global peace, guided by the principles of its foreign policy as enshrined in the Preamble of the 1945 Constitution.
“This is the moral compass and foundational pillar of Indonesia’s foreign policy,” he asserted.
In that spirit, Indonesia expressed its readiness to serve as a mediator in global conflicts within the PUIC framework.
Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR RI), Puan Maharani, voiced her hopes that Islamic countries will be able to build a prosperous and advanced civilization.
In her speech, she underlined the importance of cross-border cooperation among Islamic nations in addressing strategic issues such as economic inequality, climate change, food security, and the struggle for Palestinian independence.
“We hold great hope that the people of the Islamic world can enjoy better lives and achieve a civilization of progress,” she stated.
Meanwhile, Chairman of the Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Agency (BKSAP), Mardani Ali Sera, explained that the PUIC forum also addressed sensitive global issues, including the Pakistan-India conflict, the Russia-Ukraine war, and the Palestine issue.
“We are not ignoring these conflicts; rather, we invite all parties to sit down, view issues from multiple perspectives, and seek common ground,” he said.
With a spirit of collective commitment and peaceful diplomacy, the outcome of the 19th PUIC session affirmed that OIC member states stand united in supporting a more just and peaceful world order, with Indonesia taking a pivotal role as a bridge for dialogue and conflict resolution.
