Jakarta – The 19th Conference of the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States (PUIC), held at the Plenary Hall I of the House of Representatives (DPR RI) in Senayan, Jakarta, marked a significant moment in strengthening governance and solidarity among member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). The event also commemorated the 25th anniversary of PUIC.

Carrying the theme “Good Governance and Strong Institutions as Pillars of Resilience,” the forum emphasized the importance of good governance and strong institutions as the foundation of resilience for Muslim countries in facing global challenges.

In his opening remarks, President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, stressed that the Islamic world must once again become a moral and civilizational force.

“This union of Islamic parliaments was born from a shared awareness that we need a platform for solidarity to face global challenges and defend the interests of Muslims wherever they are,” President Prabowo stated.

He highlighted that Islamic history is filled with exemplary leaders such as Salahuddin Al-Ayyubi, Khalid ibn al-Walid, and Mehmed Al-Fatih, who were not only militarily strong but also compassionate, just, and magnanimous.

“The true strength of a leader lies in compassion and the unwavering determination to protect the vulnerable,” said President Prabowo.

The President reiterated Indonesia’s commitment to the struggles of the Islamic ummah and the urgent need for unity across the Muslim world.

“Let us not stop at discussions or drafting resolutions. What the people need is real commitment and concrete action,” he asserted.

He warned that without clean governance and strong institutions, the Islamic world would not be able to rise from poverty, inequality, and injustice.

His speech received high praise from Chairman of the Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Agency (BKSAP) of the DPR RI, Mardani Ali Sera, who described it as a reflection of visionary parliamentary leadership.

“The delegates didn’t just applaud — they were stunned. The speech stirred deep awareness that a true leader must love and protect the people,” Mardani added.

The 19th PUIC Conference included six standing committee sessions, addressing strategic issues such as youth and women’s empowerment, Palestine, the Muslim ummah, sustainable development, culture, and political affairs. Each committee produced recommendations that will shape PUIC’s future work, with a central call to strengthen good governance and clean institutions.

The 19th PUIC Conference took place from 12–15 May 2025 at the Parliament Complex in Senayan, Jakarta.
