Jakarta – The narrative of “dark Indonesia” is often used to divide society. In response to this, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Cucun Ahmad Syamsurijal, and Public Policy Observer, Dr. Jhon Tuba Helan, called for rejecting provocation with an intelligent and critical attitude. They emphasized that criticism must be based on facts and channeled through official channels.
Cucun emphasized that the DPR provides a mechanism for the right of interpellation and hearings to accommodate aspirations.
“All of this is the government working,” he said, dismissing dark claims about the performance of President Prabowo’s government.
For him, the impeachment discourse and the baseless narrative of “dark Indonesia” will only disrupt the focus of strategic programs, such as infrastructure development and bureaucratic reform.
Meanwhile, Dr. Jhon Tuba Helan reminded the importance of active community participation in understanding the vision and mission of the elected leader.
“The elected leaders have a vision and mission… we as citizens must support and implement the policy so that chaos does not occur,” he explained.
He added that the reality of democracy in Indonesia is still challenging due to low political literacy in several regions.
“The people…are often mobilized by political elites…while they themselves do not really know whether the policies are beneficial to the people or not,” said Jhon.
Therefore, he encouraged the public to attend public policy seminars and workshops to improve understanding. That way, criticism will become a tool for improvement, not divisive propaganda.
Both agreed to combine the strength of the DPR and observers to strengthen constructive dialogue. Cucun plans to strengthen the working committee for policy evaluation, while Jhon will collaborate with universities and research institutions to organize political literacy training. This synergy is expected to break the provocation of “dark Indonesia” and focus public energy on supporting accelerated development.[]
