Charles Kossay Urges Public to Support Law Enforcement and Development Efforts
Papua – The violent attack on church construction workers in Air Garam, Asotipo District, has drawn serious concern from Charles Kossay, a young intellectual figure from the Papua Highlands. He strongly condemned the actions of armed separatist groups that continue to cause unrest in several regions of Papua.
“The shooting of workers and threats against teachers and medical personnel are clear violations of human rights. These acts not only harm the victims but also disturb social harmony,” said Charles Kossay.
He noted that the activities of TPNPB groups in the Papua Highlands, Central Papua, and Intan Jaya have paralyzed local communities. Many residents are afraid to go to their farms, teach, or carry out economic activities.
According to Kossay, such actions do not advance any legitimate struggle. On the contrary, the local population suffers the most, losing both their sense of security and their opportunity for a decent life.
“Teachers and medical workers come to help develop human resources in Papua. They are not enemies—they are humanitarian workers,” Kossay emphasized.
He stressed the importance of supporting law enforcement officers to act firmly but humanely. He encouraged the public to report any acts of provocation that disrupt public order and hinder development.
In addition, he called on the government and social institutions to continue providing assistance to affected communities. The social trauma caused by the violence must not be ignored and must be addressed through psychological approaches that resonate with the Papuan people.
“If fear continues to dominate the community, there will be no growth. We need a sense of safety to ensure development can proceed smoothly,” Kossay added.
He also reminded the public to be wise in responding to information circulating on social media or in community groups. According to him, hate-filled narratives must be filtered out and not spread in order to maintain social harmony.
“Let’s stand together to keep Papua peaceful. Don’t be provoked by actions that only harm ourselves,” Kossay urged.
Furthermore, Kossay called on the public to fully support government development programs at all levels. With the support of the people, Papua can move forward and overcome its challenges.
“We all want a safe, prosperous, and developed Papua. That can only be achieved if we unite and support the ongoing development,” Kossay concluded.
