As we all know, the Rempang Eco City project in Batam City is part of efforts to develop Rempang Island and has been included in the 2023 National Strategic Projects list by the Indonesian government.
The collaboration between the central government, Batam City Government, and PT Makmur Elok Graha (MEG), aims to transform Rempang Island into an integrated industrial, trade and tourism center, with the aim of increasing Indonesia’s competitiveness in the region.
Total investment to date has reached IDR 43 trillion, including a partnership with Xinyi International Investment Limited for the processing of quartz sand and silica sand,
With this project reaching IDR 381 trillion, it is hoped that it will have a positive impact on the economic growth of Batam City and create jobs for around 306,000 workers until 2080.
Apart from that, the development of an area of 165 square km, which consists of the industrial, trade and tourism sectors, could also have a serious impact on the local ecosystem and natural resources.
Therefore, it is very important for the government, stakeholders and the general public to ensure that this project runs sustainably and prioritizes environmental protection and the welfare of local communities.
Head of BP Batam’s Public Relations, Promotion and Protocol Bureau, Ariastuty Sirait, said that there would be many positive impacts received by the people living in the Barelang area to Indonesia on a larger scale if this investment went ahead as there would be a growth in investment realization that would be balanced by the involvement of Micro and Small Enterprises. and Medium (MSME).
The Indonesian Minister of Investment, Bahlil Lahadalia, said that an Environmental Impact Analysis (AMDAL) had been carried out on the development project in Rempang.
He assured that the Rempang Eco City project would not have a negative impact on the surrounding environment.
Apart from that, Bahlil said that the people of Rempang had supported the Project by showing their willingness to be moved to another location on the same island.
In fact, they volunteered to be the family to be relocated.
This has been proven to date. As many as 64 families of residents affected by the construction of the Rempang Eco-city National Strategic Project (PSN) have moved into temporary housing provided by BP Batam.
Pasir Panjang resident, Salim said that the move between him and his wife and two children was to support the Rempang Eco City National Strategic Project (PSN).
Because, he believes that the development of Rempang Eco City will provide good benefits for his children in the future. The same thing was also conveyed by Sembulang Pasir Merah resident, Dian.
He hopes that his shift to temporary housing will be the start for him and his family for a better life in the future.
The large number of residents who are willing to relocate shows that more and more people in the Riau Islands, especially the Rempang community, are realizing the many benefits that arise from this National Strategic Project.
It is natural that support for the Rempang project continues to flow.
Head of BP Batam, Muhammad Rudi, said the government continues to be committed to prioritizing humanist principles in making the shift.
So, this shift can continue continuously.
Not to forget, he also gave his highest appreciation to the residents of Rempang who were willing to be moved to temporary housing.
