Debut at BRICS Summit, President Prabowo Delivers Indonesia’s Position as ‘Bridge Builder’

Rio de Janeiro — President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto arrived in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Saturday (5/7) morning Brasília time, to attend the BRICS Summit to be held on 6–7 July 2025. This arrival marks Indonesia’s first participation as a full member in the strategic cooperation forum for developing countries.
Prabowo landed at Galeao Air Base Airport at around 06.30 local time. He was welcomed directly by the Brazilian Ambassador Laudemar Gonçalves de Aguiar Neto along with the ranks of the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and representatives of the Brazilian Air Force. Also present from Indonesia were the Indonesian Ambassador to Brazil Edi Yusup and the Defense Attaché of the Indonesian Embassy in Brasilia.
President Prabowo attended with an entourage consisting of Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto, Deputy Minister of Finance Thomas Djiwandono, and representatives of the Indonesian diaspora in Brazil. After the welcoming, the President headed to the hotel where he was staying before attending a series of BRICS Summit meetings.
According to the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Prabowo will voice Indonesia’s position as a “bridge-builder” in various global issues.
“President Prabowo, who is attending for the first time, will use this opportunity to voice Indonesia’s stance and position as a bridge-builder in various global issues and collective efforts amidst the increasingly uncertain world situation,” said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
This year’s BRICS Summit carries the theme “Strengthening Global South Cooperation towards a More Inclusive and Sustainable Governance.” The forum is attended by more than 30 leaders of BRICS member countries, strategic partners, and international organizations. The summit is also expected to produce a Leaders’ Declaration that strengthens the shared commitment to equitable and sustainable global cooperation.
In addition to attending the Summit, the Head of State is also scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting with the President of Brazil in Brasília on July 8–9. The meeting will discuss enhancing strategic cooperation in the fields of trade, defense, energy, and food security.*
