Jakarta – President Prabowo Subianto will bring Indonesia’s voice as a bridge builder in the BRICS Summit held on July 6-7 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. This participation is an important moment because for the first time Indonesia is present as a full member of BRICS since officially joining on January 1, 2025.

“President Prabowo, who is attending for the first time, will use this opportunity to voice Indonesia’s stance and position as a bridge-builder in various global issues and collective efforts amidst the increasingly uncertain world situation,” said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemlu) in a written statement, Sunday (6/7).

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Indonesia’s strategic role in BRICS will focus on discussing a number of global political and security issues. This includes prolonged conflicts in various regions, encouragement of global governance reform, and strengthening an inclusive multilateralism system.

“As a country that is part of the Global South and the G20, Indonesia will utilize the BRICS forum as a platform to fight for fairer and more inclusive global cooperation,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized. “In addition, Indonesia will continue to promote national interests in the fields of economy, finance, education, and technology.”

On the sidelines of the summit, President Prabowo is also scheduled to hold a number of bilateral meetings with leaders of BRICS member countries and partners to strengthen cooperation in various sectors. This meeting is considered important to expand international networks and deepen foreign policy synergies.

The BRICS Summit this year carries the theme “Strengthening Global South Cooperation towards a More Inclusive and Sustainable Governance.” The meeting will discuss opportunities for cooperation in the economic and financial sectors, as well as other crucial issues such as artificial intelligence (AI) governance, climate change, and global health.

“This summit is expected to produce a Leaders’ Declaration that reflects BRICS’ joint commitment to various global challenges,” said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Since officially joining, Indonesia has been active in more than 165 BRICS meetings, including 20 ministerial-level meetings. President Prabowo’s presence at this summit is a sign of Indonesia’s readiness to play a global role in creating a peaceful, just, and sustainable world order.
