Government Affirms National Commitment to Eradicating All Forms of Smuggling
Jakarta – President Prabowo Subianto, affirmed the government’s commitment to combating four forms of major crimes that threaten the future of the nation, namely online gambling, drugs, corruption, and smuggling.
“I ask all law enforcement officers not to hesitate in taking firm action against these four crimes. This is a common enemy that must be eradicated,” President Prabowo emphasized in his direction.
This commitment was proven in the field with various law enforcement operations carried out by TNI officers and related agencies. One of them occurred in Bener Meriah Regency, Aceh.
The Intel Unit of Kodim 0119/Bener Meriah thwarted the smuggling of eight tons of pine resin that was suspected of being illegally transported to North Sumatra. The loaded truck was stopped while passing through Kampung Blang Jorong, Bandar District.
“The truck passed at around 01.00 WIB. Our officers immediately stopped it,” said Dandim 0119/Bener Meriah, Lieutenant Colonel Inf Ahmad Fauzi.
The driver initially claimed to be transporting corn, but after being checked, officers found hundreds of sacks of pine resin hidden under a tarpaulin. The truck, along with the driver and assistant, were immediately taken to the Kodim Intelligence Staff Office.
“Shortly afterward, someone with the initials BB came and claimed to be the owner of the goods. We handed the three of them over to the Bener Meriah Police along with evidence,” said Fauzi.
Meanwhile, in eastern Indonesia, the Jayapura X Lantamal Patrol Unit has also thwarted three attempts to smuggle fuel to Papua New Guinea in the last two days.
“In the operation last Thursday, we confiscated 825 liters of Pertalite from a speedboat heading to the border from Jayapura City,” said Commander of the X Lantamal Patrol Unit, Navy Colonel (P) Dedy Obet.
He said that his party also secured six unidentified foreign nationals from Papua New Guinea in the past week. The perpetrators and evidence were handed over to Immigration and related agencies.
“We ensure that surveillance at sea will continue to be increased. Border waters must be free from illegal activities,” said Dedy.
Meanwhile, in Batam, the Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Muhammad Ali attended the destruction of 2 tons of crystal methamphetamine.
“In accordance with President Prabowo’s Asta Cita, we will continue to combat drug smuggling. This is a direct order from the President and the TNI Commander,” said the Chief of Naval Staff.
These various efforts show that the government is serious and consistent in maintaining the country’s sovereignty from all forms of cross-border crime.
