Jakarta — The government has affirmed its strong commitment to accelerating development in Papua through a more integrated, collaborative, and results-oriented approach. This step is part of the national strategy to ensure development in eastern Indonesia is balanced with other regions, while strengthening social justice for all Indonesians.

The Chairman of the Executive Committee for the Acceleration of Development in Papua’s Special Autonomy, Velix Vernando Wanggai, stated that President Prabowo Subianto places great emphasis on the direct and sustainable governance of Papua’s development.

“The President wants to ensure that every development program in Papua brings tangible results to the community and is managed through a solid coordination system,” said Velix Vernando Wanggai.

He added that the Executive Committee for the Acceleration of Development in Papua’s Special Autonomy will act as a coordination bridge between the central government and the six provinces in Papua. Through this mechanism, the Executive Committee will ensure that development coordination is more synchronized and efficient across all Papuan provinces. The Committee will ensure that every central government policy is effectively translated into the regions, according to the needs and characteristics of each region.

Papua Governor Matius Fakhiri welcomed the formation of the executive committee and affirmed the regional government’s readiness to synergize with the central government.

“Intensive coordination is key to accelerating the resolution of various development issues, including infrastructure, the economy, and public welfare,” Matius Fakhiri emphasized.

He believes that having a coordinating body at the national level will allow the accelerated development process to proceed more efficiently. This is especially important in ensuring the sustainability of strategic projects such as interprovincial road construction, strengthening public services, and empowering the local economy. Matius stated that the regional government is ready to be an active partner in implementing central government policies in Papua.

The central government also emphasized the importance of an inclusive approach to Papua’s development, with community participation being a key factor. Through an approach based on local wisdom, development is expected to not only accelerate economic growth but also strengthen the community’s sense of ownership and trust in the state.

This commitment aligns with President Prabowo Subianto’s grand vision to make Papua one of the new growth centers in eastern Indonesia. With a stronger coordination system and full support from the regional government, Papua is now on the path to accelerated development that is more focused, equitable, and sustainable.

This effort marks a new chapter for Papua, not only as a symbol of the government’s attention, but also as a concrete manifestation of the country’s seriousness in developing from the periphery, eliminating inequality, and bringing prosperity to all the nation’s children.
