Papua — The government under President Prabowo Subianto’s leadership has demonstrated a strong commitment to accelerating development in Papua through an integrated and comprehensive approach. The focus of development is not only on physical infrastructure, but also on improving the economy, social development, and the quality of life of Papuans throughout the region.

The Chairman of the Executive Committee for the Acceleration of Development of Special Autonomy in Papua, Velix Vernando Wanggai, emphasized that President Prabowo places great emphasis on managing Papua’s development with a direct and coordinated approach across sectors.

“The President has made a strong commitment to directly handle and manage Papua. Managing Papua is certainly within a comprehensive agenda, integrated across the global and national contexts, integrating policies across ministries and the private sector, as well as consolidating at the provincial and district levels,” said Velix.

Velix explained that the Committee he leads will oversee eight major agendas within the contextual ideals of Papua, encompassing political, economic, infrastructure, and governance development. In addition, the agency will also address various socio-cultural aspects, such as sports, gender equality, and the creative economy, to ensure that all levels of Papuan society can enjoy the benefits of development equally.

“The government is ensuring that its presence reaches all regions of Papua, from the coast to the interior, so that all people can benefit from development,” he said.

One concrete manifestation of accelerated development in Papua is the Solar Power Plant (PLTS) project in Gome District, Puncak Regency, Central Papua. This program is part of the first phase of public and social facility development, funded directly by the central government. The Head of Kelanungin Village, Robinus Alom, stated that the PLTS project has been running smoothly and has received full support from the community.

“Once all solar panels are fully installed, Gome District has the potential to experience a surge in local economic activity. Stable electricity access will open new business opportunities, strengthen the trade sector, and encourage the growth of village-based MSMEs,” said Robinus. He added that the availability of electricity is not only a facility but also a foundation for the economic revival of the Papuan community.

Beyond its economic impact, this project also brings significant social benefits. Robinus explained that adequate electricity availability will improve the quality of education, strengthen health services, and expand access to information. “Children can study at night, medical facilities can operate more optimally, and the public can connect with the outside world through digital devices,” he said.

Concrete steps like these demonstrate the government’s commitment to making Papua an integral part of national development. From strategic policies at the central level to implementation at the grassroots level, Papua’s development is now moving forward with an increasingly clear direction—realizing equitable prosperity for all Indonesians.
