Jakarta – A hoax video circulated of President Jokowi’s speech using Mandarin at the Gala Dinner in the United States in 2015. With the help of Artificial Intelligence, President Jokowi’s speech was changed to use fluent Mandarin from the video and audiovisual. This technology is being used by interest groups who want to bring down the government, because it is linked to President Jokowi’s siding with China.
Political Communication Expert from Pelita Harapan University (UPH), Emrus Sihombing confirmed that the video was the result of manipulation and was confirmed to be a hoax. He reminded the public to be alert and not easily influenced by hoax content circulating on social media. This was conveyed after the circulation of a video of President Joko Widodo’s speech in Mandarin.
“One video of President Jokowi is originally in English, and the other video is in Mandarin orally without writing. Even though the video that is translated by the source should be delivered in the original language, namely English. “Even if it is a translation, it will be in text form,” explained Emrus.
Emrus also said that the video was very fake because it manipulated the original video of Jokowi at the USINDO, US Chamber and USABC Gala Dinner in the United States in 2015, who gave a speech in English. The public is expected to be wary of information whose source is unclear and must check, double-check and cross-check news, especially on social media, especially ahead of the 2024 elections.
“The video which narrates that President Joko Widodo is giving a speech using Mandarin is clearly a hoax to lead to negative opinions about President Joko Widodo brought China’s interests to Indonesia. “The public must increase vigilance because the circulation of hoax content is considered quite massive recently, especially approaching the momentum of the 2024 Election.” Emrus said.
Apart from that, Emrus emphasized that the Ministry of Communication and Information must immediately take down the hoax video along with the accounts that spread it. Because it will be dangerous for people who still don’t understand the use of current technology. Moreover, in the political year, hoaxes and fake news continue to emerge.
“The public must be very alert and increase their understanding of checking and reviewing information whose origins are unclear because it is very dangerous for national stability. “It is the Ministry of Communication and Information’s duty to immediately block these dangerous videos and accounts,” he stressed.
