Integrated Data Protection, Pillar of Digital Sovereignty and National Cyber Defense
Jakarta – Amid the increasing escalation of global cyber threats, the Indonesian government is increasingly showing a strong commitment to strengthening national digital defense. This effort is not only a response to the increasing number of data security incidents, but also a proactive strategy in ensuring data sovereignty and national stability.
The massive digital transformation has made information technology infrastructure the vital backbone of public and private sector operations. However, in reality, almost 90 percent of information technology (IT) teams in Indonesia are still struggling with budget constraints, outdated systems, and manual processes that open up gaps for cyber attacks. This fact reveals the importance of integrated data protection solutions to address the complexity of dynamically evolving threats.
Synology Indonesia Country Manager, Clara Hsu, emphasized the urgency of adopting integrated solutions to protect strategic data.
“IT teams are now at the crossroads between efficiency and security. Budget constraints force them to make strategic decisions with minimal resources,” he said.
Clara also highlighted that the old approach that relies on separate systems will only increase the risk of downtime, data loss, and human error.
In response to these challenges, Synology introduced technologies such as ActiveProtect Appliance, which offers centralized data protection management, storage efficiency, layered security, and disaster recovery simulations. This approach is in line with government policies that encourage digital efficiency while strengthening national security.
From the defense side, the TNI has also taken significant steps in dealing with cyber threats that are cross-border and continue to grow.
“Cyber threats are transnational and continue to grow. Synergy between countries is needed to increase readiness to face these challenges,” said the TNI Chief of General Staff (Kasum), Lt. Gen. TNI Richard Tampubolon, in a strategic meeting with the Singaporean military.
This momentum needs to be strengthened with the support of the community and industry players. Integrated data protection is not only a technical solution, but a long-term investment for economic sustainability, national security, and public trust in institutions.
With a reliable, efficient, and integrated data protection system, Indonesia is ready to go further as a resilient country in facing current and future digital threats. The government invites all parties to work together, strengthening national data defense in order to realize a safe, sovereign, and sustainable digital ecosystem.
