President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) inaugurated the Papua Street Carnival in Jayapura, Papua, on Friday (7/7/2023).

The event was initiated by the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy (Kemenparekraf) and the State Intelligence Agency (BIN) involving the Papua Youth Creative Hub (PYCH).

“By invoking the blessings and grace of God Almighty, this morning I officially declare the Papua Street Carnival open and starting,” Jokowi said, as reported by the Presidential Secretariat’s YouTube broadcast, Friday.

On that occasion, Jokowi appreciated the existence of PYCH which he said had developed a lot since it was inaugurated in March 2023.

Therefore, Jokowi believes that young Papuans are capable of making big leaps in their future work. “I believe young Papuans will make a big leap. Ladies and gentlemen, if you don’t believe me, please enter the exhibition site and see for yourself,” Jokowi said.

“How come the packaging of Papuan products, whether it’s coffee, whether it’s smoked fish, and other products related to fashion designers, is really a very visible leap,” he said again.

According to Jokowi, the product designs made by young Papuans are good and well packaged.

In addition, he appreciates some young Papuans who are already able to assemble cell phones and laptops themselves.

“The Menparekraf (Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy) said earlier, producing cellphones, producing laptops, this is not being done in western Indonesia, but in eastern Indonesia, in the land of Papua. A leap,” said Jokowi.

“And later we will see what the creative industry in Papua is like, we will see this morning,” he said again.

On this occasion, a number of state officials were also present, including Menparekraf Sandiaga Uno, Head of BIN Budi Gunawan, National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, TNI Commander Admiral Yudo Margono, Minister of State Secretary Pratikno, Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian, and Minister of Investment/Head of BKPM Bahlil Lahadalia.
