Jokowi Inaugurates Papua Street Carnival and Praises Products for Young People PYCH assisted by BIN
Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) inaugurated the opening of the Papua Street Carnival, which took place in the area of the Papua Governor’s Office, Jayapura City, Friday (7/7).
In the event themed “Papua Extravaganza The East Great Spirit”, President Jokowi was accompanied by the Head of BIN, Prof. Dr. Police General (Purn.) Budi Gunawan SH, M.Sc., and Menparekraf Sandiaga Uno.
When giving his speech, Jokowi praised the potential of the young Papuan generation and said that he really believed that young Papuans would make big leaps. Moreover, the work of young people from the Papua Youth Creative Hub (PYCH), which is under the guidance of BIN, can be said to be extraordinary.
“I believe young Papuans will make a big leap, ladies and gentlemen, if you don’t believe, please enter the exhibition site and see for yourself how the packaging of Papuan products is called, whether it’s coffee, whether it’s smoked fish, and other products. ,” said President Jokowi.
One of the Cartensz Papua tour operators who is also the founder of the Somatua Foundation, Maximus Tipagau, said he was also proud of President Jokowi’s presence at the carnival. He himself said that activities like this were good for raising the talents of young native Papuans.
“In my opinion, this carnival is very good for raising the original talents of the Papuan people who attach the culture of each Papuan traditional territory, especially the new province,” said Maximus to the media.
On the same occasion, Minister Sandiaga Uno revealed that the collaboration between the State Intelligence Agency (BIN) and Kemenparekraf was a form of Jokowi’s quick move in realizing one of the requests of young Papuans, Yunike’s sister, who hopes Papua will have an event like the Jember Fashion Carnaval.
“Together with BIN, we, the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, are collaborating with the Papua Street Carnaval. This is a form of Gercep. The President’s quick move, in March, Mr. President ordered that, at the request of Yunike’s sister, Papua should have the class of Jember Fashion Carnaval. Within 3 months, our designers will prepare this event,” Sandiaga said. .
According to Sandiaga, since PYCH was inaugurated, many events have been held. Total revenue from the event reached IDR 2.6 billion.
“Since the inauguration of PYCH there have been many events attended, Papua Kopi Expo 6 thousand visitors in 4 days, expo launching activities and total income for 3 months can be above IDR 2.6 billion. PYCH designers who have made 94 costumes will appear later,” he said.
The inauguration ceremony was also attended by the National Police Chief, General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, TNI Commander, Admiral Yudo Margono, and Minister of Investment, Bahlil Lahadalia.
To note, PYCH is a center for driving the creativity of young Papuans initiated and fostered by the State Intelligence Agency (BIN). Meanwhile, the Papua Street Carnival is planned to become an annual event. [-red]
