General elections (Pemilu) are an important milestone in democracy, where the people have the opportunity to elect their leaders and determine the direction of the country for the next few years. Elections often cause tension and polarization in society, especially during the vote counting process and determining the results. Therefore, maintaining a conducive situation after determining the election results is very important for the stability and progress of the country.
The 2024 election in Indonesia is in the public spotlight because it is considered an election full of challenges. Complex political issues, as well as the increasing use of social media as a tool for disseminating information and opinions, make the situation even more complex. After determining the election results, the main challenge faced is how to manage tensions and differences of opinion peacefully, as well as ensuring political stability and national security are maintained.
One of the important steps that must be taken is to prioritize dialogue and communication between the various parties involved. The government, political parties and civil society need to sit down together to discuss sensitive issues and find mutually acceptable solutions. Open and inclusive dialogue can reduce tensions and increase trust between parties.
Apart from that, it is also important to maintain security during the post-election period. Strict law enforcement against law violations and provocative actions needs to be carried out to prevent greater riots and conflicts. The police and other security forces need to be firm but proportional in dealing with potential security disturbances.
The National Police of the Republic of Indonesia (Polri), deployed 4,691 joint personnel to anticipate security disturbances after the General Election Commission (KPU) announced the results of the 2024 Election vote recapitulation. Head of the Public Information Bureau (Karo Penmas) of the National Police’s Public Relations Division Brigadier General Trunoyudo Wisnu Andiko said the personnel were members of in Operation Mantap Brata 2024 which focuses on securing every stage of the 2024 Election. The National Police has also succeeded in mapping demonstrations regarding election disputes and claiming that the situation and conditions after the announcement of the election results are still safe and conducive.
Kompolnas member from the Community Figures Element, H. Mohammad Dawam, accompanied by Kombes (Pol) Joko Purwanto, SH, SIK, and Yosef Gaspar M. Da Costa, SH carried out election monitoring activities and carried out data collection in the framework of the Election Supervision Working Visit at the Regional Police South Kalimantan expressed its hope that the South Kalimantan Regional Police would mobilize all ranks to maintain conduciveness and social security in the jurisdiction of the South Kalimantan Regional Police. He added that all potential lawsuits regarding election insecurity and the results that will be announced need to be anticipated and maintained so that they remain conducive and do not cause divisions.
Political education also has a very important role in maintaining a conducive situation after the election. The public needs to be given a better understanding of the importance of democracy, respect for differences of opinion, and peaceful resolution of conflicts. Good political education can help society deal with political issues wisely and rationally.
General Chairperson of the Mathla’ul Anwar (PBMA) Executive Board, KH Embay Mulya Syarief, invited the public to maintain national and state conduciveness after the determination of the 2024 Election results by the General Election Commission (KPU). If there is dissatisfaction with the results of the recapitulation, it is necessary to follow the existing mechanism. However, society must continue to maintain national unity and integrity. People are expected to remain calm and not allow conflict to arise because differences are inevitable. So we must be able to respect each other and obey the new leader, as well as follow the mutually agreed rules.
In the context of globalization and technological development, the role of mass media cannot be ignored. Mass media has the power to shape public opinion and perception. Therefore, the mass media needs to be responsible for providing accurate and balanced information, as well as avoiding reporting that is provocative or inflammatory, causing an unfavorable situation.
In the midst of the dynamics and complexity of the post-2024 election results and determination, active community participation is also urgently needed. The community needs to be involved in the monitoring and supervision process, and support efforts to create peace and stability. Community participation can be a big force in maintaining a conducive situation after the election.
The Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menko Polhukam), Hadi Tjahjanto, invited the entire community to maintain a conducive atmosphere, including announcing the results of the 2024 General Election (Pemilu). The democratic party must be built with pleasant and refreshing narratives.
By taking these steps, it is hoped that the situation after the 2024 election results will remain conducive and peaceful. All parties need to work together to create an atmosphere that is safe, stable and full of mutual respect. Elections are a democratic event that must be carried out wisely and responsibly, for the sake of common interests and a better future for the nation and state.
