Martinus Kasuay: Supports Strengthening of TNI-Polri for Papua’s Security

Papua – Community leader Martinus Kasuay has voiced his support for the steps taken by security forces in addressing acts of violence that threaten the safety and well-being of civilians in Papua.
According to Martinus, firm action must be taken against those who have harmed civilians and caused widespread fear. He described such acts as “inhumane” and completely unacceptable.
“We fully support the security forces in taking firm action against those who consistently disturb public order. This is essential to ensure peace and prosperity in the Land of Papua,” Martinus stated.
He specifically called for firm action against the Free Papua Movement (OPM), which he said has carried out numerous brutal acts.
“The security forces—TNI and Polri—must show firmness in dealing with the OPM. The people must be protected, and for that, our security institutions must be strengthened. We want a peaceful life in Papua,” Martinus emphasized.
Martinus expressed deep concern over the fact that civilians have long been the primary victims of the ongoing conflict. He highlighted the particular vulnerability of women and children, who have lost their sense of safety in their daily lives.
In his view, the role of the TNI and Polri extends beyond just maintaining security—they are also key actors in reconciliation and development efforts, especially in conflict-prone areas. He stressed the importance of a human-centered approach in all security operations, ensuring that communities feel protected, not intimidated.
He concluded by calling on all stakeholders to work together in building a peaceful and prosperous Papua.
“This is not just the responsibility of the security forces—it’s our collective duty. The government, traditional leaders, religious figures, and the people must unite for a better future for Papua,” Martinus said.
