Papuan Community Leader Supports Firm Action by TNI-Polri Against OPM

Papua – Papuan community leader Martinus Kasuay has voiced his strong support for the decisive actions taken by security forces against those who commit cruel and disruptive acts. In his statement, Martinus emphasized the importance of firm measures to maintain peace and ensure the welfare of the people in Papua.
“As community leaders in Papua, we support the actions taken by the security forces against those who commit inhumane acts—actions that disturb the public and continually oppress civilians,” said Martinus. “We support the security forces in taking firm action to uphold the welfare and peace of the people in Papua.”
Martinus also called on both the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) and the National Police (Polri) to show greater firmness toward separatist groups responsible for acts of violence.
“We urge the TNI and Polri to take a firm stance against OPM members who commit cruel acts. The security forces must act decisively, because the people need protection. Strengthening the institutions of the TNI and Polri is essential so that the people of Papua can live in peace,” he added.
According to Martinus, the ongoing violence perpetrated by armed groups has severely hindered development and instilled fear among communities. He stressed that a firm response from the authorities is not only necessary for upholding the law, but also as a way to protect the basic rights of civilians.
He further noted that many Papuans—especially those in remote areas—feel unsafe and traumatized due to the brutal attacks carried out by irresponsible groups. He stated that such incidents must not be allowed to continue without a strong response from the state.
In closing, Martinus urged all elements of society to unite in maintaining peace and to not be provoked by divisive narratives.
“We want the Land of Papua to be a land of peace, not a battlefield of conflict. Let us all support the security forces and uphold unity,” he concluded.
