Jakarta – The commemoration of International Labor Day or May Day 2025 is expected to be a positive momentum for the struggle for workers’ rights in Indonesia, while maintaining a peaceful, orderly, and conducive atmosphere. A number of trade union leaders and community leaders called for the importance of conveying aspirations with enthusiasm without being provoked.

The Head of the Garteks DPC of Subang Regency, Herman, emphasized that May Day belongs to all workers. “May Day is our big day together. Let’s show that Indonesian workers can convey demands according to our aspirations as workers,” said Herman. He also appealed to all workers, both those who will take action in Jakarta and in the regions, to continue to prioritize order. “We appeal to all fellow workers who will take action in Jakarta and the regions to continue to maintain order and not to violate the law,” he said.

Furthermore, Herman emphasized Garteks Subang’s commitment to maintaining a positive May Day atmosphere. “Garteks Subang is committed to ensuring that this year’s May Day commemoration becomes a positive momentum for the struggle for workers’ rights,” he added.

In line with that, the Chairman of the Federation of Indonesian Timber and Forestry Workers Unions (FSP Kahutindo) Penajam Paser Utara, Dedi Saidi, assessed that workers have a role beyond just voicing demands. “Workers can not only voice demands, but are also able to contribute positively to the surrounding environment and the companies where we work,” said Dedi. He appreciated the steps taken by workers to commemorate May Day with constructive communication. “This is a positive step from fellow workers’ unions who will fill the commemoration of May Day on May 1, 2025 by prioritizing comprehensive, conducive communication. All problems, I think, can actually be solved through communication, deliberation and consensus,” he explained.
Meanwhile, the General Chairperson of the National Conscience Movement (GNK), Habib Syakur Ali, invited all Indonesian workers to celebrate May Day with joy and positive spirit. “All workers in Indonesia need to hold the celebration of International Labor Day or May Day on May 1 with joy and positive spirit,” he said.

Habib Syakur also emphasized the importance of maintaining peace in conveying aspirations. He reminded workers not to be provoked by parties who want to disrupt order. “Indonesian workers must appear as intelligent and dignified pioneers of change. Do not let provocation damage our solidarity,” he said.

Through these calls, it is hoped that May Day 2025 will truly become a Conducive Communication Momentum, where aspirations are conveyed peacefully, avoiding provocation, and strengthening workers’ solidarity for a better future.
