PAPUA – President Prabowo Subianto has designated Merauke Regency as a national food barn, a strategic policy that is expected to improve Indonesia’s food security and the welfare of the Papuan people. This decision has received appreciation from various groups, including Papuan youth figure, Gifli Buinei, who considers the step to be the right policy and oriented towards the welfare of the people.

According to Gifli Buinei, who is a Bachelor of Engineering and a young Papuan figure, the designation of Merauke as a national food barn is based on various strategic factors.
“Merauke Regency has extensive agricultural land, fertile soil, and a climate that supports large-scale food production. Therefore, President Prabowo Subianto’s decision to make Merauke the center of national food security is a very appropriate step,” he said.

In addition to contributing to national food security, this program is also expected to have a positive impact on the Papuan people, especially in Merauke. According to Gifli, the presence of this program can create job opportunities, improve the welfare of local farmers, and encourage economic growth in the region.

Furthermore, Gifli invited all elements of society, especially the young generation of Papua, to support and oversee this program. “We hope that the Papuan people will not only be spectators in this program, but also play an active role in its implementation. Thus, the benefits of this program can be felt directly by the local community,” he added. This policy is in line with the government’s vision in strengthening national food security and reducing dependence on imports. With optimal utilization of natural resources and support from all elements of society, Merauke has the potential to become a food center not only for Indonesia, but also the world.
