All office holders at the West Manggarai Police ensure that they will work hand in hand and work together in creating a social harmony and security situation ahead of and during the 42nd Asean Sumit Summit.
The 2023 ASEAN Summit is planned to raise 3 main pillars, namely economics, politics and security as well as socio-culture. The focus is on politics and security, especially related to cooperation with regional security efforts.
Previously the Commander of Korem 161/Wira Sakti Brigadier General Febriel Buyung Sikumbang appealed to the people in East Nusa Tenggara, especially in Labuan Bajo, to maintain the security situation ahead of the ASEAN Summit. The event is planned to be held in May 2023.
This was conveyed in connection with the security measures carried out by the Indonesian Army in Labuan Bajo ahead of the ASEAN Summit which is scheduled to be held on May 9-13 which is expected to be attended by 1,500 delegates from various countries in ASEAN.
The one-star commander added that Labuan Bajo was appointed by President Jokowi as the host of the ASEAN Summit activities because it is part of the government’s efforts to make Labuan Bajo a premium tourist location. Of course this will have a very good impact on the economy of the people in Labuan Bajo and the surrounding area .
The top leader at Korem 161/Wira Sakti also said that currently infrastructure development in Labuan Bajo is continuing to grow and economic conditions are getting better.
Febriel feels that this is what President Jokowi wants to show in relation to the development of the Tourism sector in Eastern Indonesia.
He added that those who are in direct control are the integrated joint security task command that will guard the sea, air and land areas.
So far the security conditions in the Labuan Bajo area itself are still conducive and he hopes that this conducive situation will be maintained.
Because, if the conditions in Labuan Bajo are safe, this will also affect tourist visits which will have an impact on improving the people’s economy.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Labuan Bajo Immigration Office Jaya Mahendra said that with the 2023 ASEAN Summit, Labuan Bajo has the potential to become a tourist location that is crowded with foreign tourists in 2023. Thus the trend of an increase in the number of foreign tourists in West Manggarai will increase.
In line with this, supervision of foreigners during the preparatory period leading up to the ASEAN Summit needs to be improved, especially at the entry and exit of foreigners by air or sea.
The ASEAN Summit itself will be attended by 11 Southeast Asian countries including Timor Leste and the Secretary General of ASEAN with an estimated number of delegates of around 1000-1500 people.
With such a large number of delegates, of course security and supervision must be tightened. This was done to anticipate crossings for foreigners or tendentious parties who could potentially pose threats and disturbances, especially during the ASEAN SUMMIT in Labuan Bajo.
On a different occasion, the NTT Regional Police Chief, Inspector General of Police Johni Asadoma ensured that his party would provide super priority security for heads of state and delegates participating in the 2023 ASEAN Summit in Labuan Bajo, West Manggarai NTT.
His party also asked all levels of society in West Manggarai Regency, especially Labuan Bajo to play an active role in creating a safe and conducive situation ahead of the ASEAN Summit.
