38

In his decade of leadership, President Joko Widodo has left a significant legacy in Indonesia’s infrastructure sector. A massive and integrated infrastructure development program not only strengthens the country’s physical foundations, but also encourages economic growth and improves people’s quality of life. With this extraordinary achievement, President Jokowi has been dubbed the Father of Indonesian Infrastructure.

Professor at the Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Indonesia, Telisa Aulia Falianty, expressed high appreciation for Jokowi’s performance. “We appreciate Pak Jokowi that he is the father of Indonesian infrastructure because he left an extraordinary legacy. Usually people think that infrastructure is physical, even though it is also related to technology. In Pak Jokowi’s era, our internet speed has accelerated, such as from 4G to 5G so “It’s easier for us to communicate and be productive,” said Telisa.

Under Jokowi’s leadership, infrastructure development has spread evenly to remote areas. “In the era of President Jokowi, all people’s basic needs continue to be supplied and encouraged by improving connectivity, including village roads, so that people’s needs can be met properly, prices are stable, which is one of his achievements too,” he added.

In the latest release, Secretary of the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, Susiwijono Moegiarso, emphasized the positive impact of infrastructure development on Indonesia’s economic growth. “This massive infrastructure development has had a huge impact on our economic growth over the past decade. From the latest records, there are 233 projects in progress, some of which will be completed by the end of this year, while others will be completed after 2024,” said Susiwijono.

Infrastructure development is not only concentrated on Java. “Various infrastructure projects, both National Strategic Projects (PSN) and economic development areas, especially Special Economic Zones (KEK), will indeed level all sources of economic growth, especially outside Java,” he continued.

The sustainability of infrastructure projects is a major concern going forward. Susiwijono added, “For future sustainability, we want to push back some of the infrastructure that we have built in the past 10 years. For example, of the 61 planned dams, 53 have been completed. Next, we are encouraging the irrigation network and optimizing the use of the dams themselves. “

With these various achievements, Jokowi’s reign will not only be remembered as an era of physical infrastructure development, but also as a step forward towards a more connected and productive Indonesia. The legacy left by President Jokowi in the infrastructure sector is the foundation for future generations, ensuring inclusive and sustainable growth for all the people of Indonesia.
