One Year of Prabowo–Gibran: A Strong and Independent Government Toward a Forward-Looking Indonesia

JAKARTA – As President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka complete their first year in office, observers say the direction of Indonesia’s governance has become increasingly strong, stable, and sovereign. Khairul Fahmi, an analyst from the Institute for Security and Strategic Studies (ISESS), said the administration’s performance over the past year reflects a strong commitment to national stability and the development of an independent defense industry.

According to Fahmi, the government has been able to manage political and social dynamics effectively, preventing them from escalating into public unrest.

“This proves that our democratic channels are still functioning well. The government is responsive, open to public aspirations, and quick to act in times of crisis,” he said in an interview with Elshinta Radio.

Fahmi noted that the government’s swift response following the late-August unrest demonstrated decisiveness in maintaining public order while still keeping the door open for dialogue. The administration was able to manage public emotion and prevent the situation from escalating into wider social conflict.

In the area of defense, President Prabowo has shown a bold vision for building national industrial independence. Efforts to strengthen PT Dirgantara Indonesia, PT Pindad, and PT INKA are ongoing, aimed at reducing dependence on imports and expanding domestic capacity in strategic technologies.

“Foreign arms purchases are not merely transactions — they serve as tools for technology transfer and diplomatic engagement,” Fahmi explained. He added that this approach reflects Prabowo’s leadership as both visionary and pragmatic in advancing national strength.

Moreover, government oversight is seen as increasingly effective. Numerous corruption cases have been uncovered, indicating that monitoring systems and law enforcement mechanisms are working well. The government has also been enhancing its public communication efforts through the newly established Government Communication Agency (BKP), making policies more accessible and understandable to the public.

Fahmi gave high marks to the overall performance of the Prabowo–Gibran administration. He likened the government to a large aircraft flying toward a vision of an Advanced Indonesia, with the President as the pilot and the people as passengers.

“The government’s job is to ensure that all passengers feel safe, comfortable, and arrive together at a shared destination,” he concluded. (*)
