Kupang — Optimizing the digital world will be very helpful in overcoming the spread of fake news or hoaxes ahead of the 2024 regional elections.
Chairman of the Indonesian Timor Community Care Institute, Mariano Parada, hopes that the 2024 Pilkada can run smoothly without any disruption, including the spread of hoaxes.
“We hope that the 2024 regional elections which will take place simultaneously throughout Indonesia will be safe, peaceful and successful,” he said.
This is because the existence of fake news itself is one of the real challenges in organizing regional elections.
“However, it cannot be denied that there are certainly challenges in holding the Pilkada in 2024, including the spread of hoax information or fake news and low voter participation as well as complex logistics,” said Mariano.
So, according to him, to be able to overcome these challenges is by socializing and strengthening digital information regulations.
With good optimization of the digital world, voting will actually become much more transparent.
“To overcome this, there needs to be outreach or campaigns so that it can increase voter participation, and then strengthen digital information regulations,” explained the Chair of the Indonesian Timor Community Care Institute.
“How can we utilize existing technology to manage logistics such as transparent voting,” he continued.
According to him, the existence of technology and social media itself is a very important means of increasing transparency and accountability in the 2024 Regional Elections.
“Technology and social media are the most important tools and play a very important role in increasing transparency and accountability in the 2024 Regional Elections,” said Mariano.
“Because through technology and social media we can disseminate information widely and quickly. “The public can also directly monitor the voting and vote counting process in real time at their respective polling stations,” he continued.
When the optimization of the digital world improves, it is not impossible to increase the active participation of voters in the regional elections.
The General Chairperson of the NTT Muhammadiyah Student Association Regional Leadership, Tita Nandita Oktaviani explained that active community participation is very important.
“Community involvement is very important in ensuring that the process of implementing democracy runs well and produces leaders who are competent and side with the interests of the people,” he said.
