Peaceful Regional Elections Require Cooperation from All Elements of Society
Pilkada is an important moment in the life of the nation and state. It is important to underline the importance of maintaining calm and unity in this process. Peaceful regional elections are not just a hope, but a necessity that requires cooperation from all elements of society.
Smart and responsible political participation from candidates and their supporters is also the key to realizing peaceful regional elections. All parties must prioritize dialogue, constructive debate and respect differences of opinion as part of the democratic process. Avoiding identity politics, incitement and attempts to divide society is an important step in ensuring that the regional elections take place in a conducive atmosphere.
The government’s role in creating a conducive atmosphere is very important to ensure that each stage of the regional elections is carried out transparently and fairly, so that the public has confidence in the democratic process. Active involvement of security forces is also needed to ensure order during the campaign and voting period.
Realizing peaceful and democratic elections is not solely the responsibility of government institutions such as the KPU or Bawaslu. However, all elements of Bengkayang district society play an active role in encouraging the realization of a peaceful and safe democratic party. Prioritizing factual information, refraining from spreading fake or provocative news, and respecting other people’s political choices are ways we can support peaceful regional elections.
The city of Pagar Alam, South Sumatra held a Declaration of Peaceful Regional Elections in 2024 at the Besemah Due (II) Meeting Room, Pagar Alam Mayor’s Office. This activity is a synergy to prevent potential social conflict with forum I across community organizations, in order to realize the success of cool, safe and integrity regional elections in the Pagar Alam City area.

Apart from that, young people should be actively involved in every regional election process, especially actively involved in monitoring via social media. The role of youth in preventing the politicization of SARA is very important, especially through social media.
The media has great power to influence public perceptions, therefore, they must be responsible for presenting accurate, balanced and unbiased information. Emphasizing reporting that supports dialogue, tolerance and cooperation can be the key to building a conducive atmosphere leading up to and during the regional elections.

Only by prioritizing the spirit of togetherness and with an awareness of the importance of maintaining calm and unity, all elements of society can make regional elections an event that strengthens unity and a healthy and civilized democracy, rather than dividing and producing conflict.
