The Head of Public Relations of the East Java Regional Police, Senior Commissioner Frans Barung Mangera, said that his side had also pursued racist utterances to Papuan students at the Surabaya Papua Dormitory, especially those recorded in viral videos some time ago, and so far there have been 6 people examined about the matter.

Barung said that he would move quickly to resolve the case of alleged acts of racism against Papuan students.

6 of the people examined were one of the action coordinators named Tri Susanti. However, from the results of the examination, the East Java Regional Police have not explained the results of the investigation and until now no one has been determined to be a suspect.

Barung said that his party was still carrying out an investigation of the person suspected of hurling racism at Papuan students at Jalan Kalasan hostel, Surabaya, East Java.

Disclosure of the case, according to Barung needs to be prioritized for the sake of security stability after the riots that occurred in Papua and West Papua, which were triggered by discriminatory and unfair treatment of Papuan students in Surabaya.

Moreover, President Jokowi has ordered National Police Chief Gen. Tito Karnavian along with his staff to crack down on racist perpetrators to Papuan students in Surabaya to be immediately revealed.

This shows that the police are not playing games and are always ready to carry out instructions from the President of the Republic of Indonesia.

On another occasion, the Police also conducted an examination of 9 witnesses, including witnesses from social organizations (organizations), witnesses from the Tambaksari sub-district, and the community around Papua’s dormitory.

Regarding the determination of the suspect, Barung said that East Java Regional Police Chief Inspector General Luki Hermawan would deliver it directly to the public.

While for the alleged perpetrators who were allegedly members of the TNI, he admitted that he had surrendered fully to the POM TNI. What is clear is that both the TNI and Polri coordinated the investigation of racist speeches to Papuan students in Surabaya.

Kodam V Brawijaya has also decided to hold a temporary suspension of the 5 members. The five members are the Tambaksar Koramil Commander along with 4 other Koramil personnel.

Kapendam V / Brawijaya, Lt. Col. Imam Haryadi said that the decision to suspend the five TNI members was based on the results of an investigation into a viral video.

Of the 5 personnel, Imam concluded that there were 2 people who looked emotional and so reactive when tensions occurred between the masses and Papuan students. The two people were then made unpredictable.

The two TNI members who had been suspected had been further investigated because they were thought to have been provoked by emotions and displayed an attitude that was not supposed to be carried out by the security forces.

However, Imam said that reward and punishment in the TNI was clear and could not be bargained again, if its members were proven guilty, there would clearly be sanctions later.

Presidential Chief of Staff Moeldoko, said that President Jokowi had summoned the National Police Chief, Armed Forces Commander and Coordinating Minister for Politics and Security Wiranto Wiranto to discuss the matter. Moeldoko suspected that the racist actions occurred because there were individuals who did not understand the situation on the ground.

This case originated from allegations of the destruction of the Red and White Flag by students until hundreds of mass organizations packed their dormitory the day before the 74th anniversary of Indonesian independence.

However, this has been denied by the student from Papua. The riots in Surabaya triggered the anger of the Papuans, and the riots that occurred in Papua and West Papua, one of which heats up is Manokwari, Sorong and Jayapura.

The action was a form of protest against acts of persecution and racism carried out by unscrupulous officers against Papuan students in Malang, Surabaya and Semarang, in recent times.

This enforcement effort is certainly a form of law enforcement in Indonesia, where Indonesia has long been a country that has a variety of ethnic and religious diversity.

By giving racial slurs or sayings to other tribes, it is certainly a desecration of fellow citizens. Therefore, all legal processes being developed by the police are expected to leave no seeds of revenge.
