Reject Money Politics Ahead of the Election, Create Elections with Integrity

74
Ahead of the 2024 election, the public is urged to reject money politics.
Don’t be hit by a ‘dawn attack’ and then receive an envelope and vote for a legislative candidate you don’t like just because you’ve been bribed.
Money politics is very dangerous because it can undermine democracy in Indonesia and fraud will damage the sanctity of elections.
General elections (Pemilu) will be held in early 2024 but must be prepared now so that they run well.
All parties play a major role in creating peaceful elections and collaborate in order to create peaceful elections.
Peace must be maintained so that the elections can run smoothly
To maintain the smoothness and peace of the elections, the public is advised to reject money politics.
Money politics (money politics) is an attempt to influence the choice of voters (voters) or election organizers with material or other rewards.
From this understanding, money politics is a form of bribery.
Deputy Chairman of the KPK (Corruption Eradication Commission) Alexander Marwata stated that the phenomenon of money politics is still a serious threat ahead of the 2024 General Election. Regarding guarding the elections next year, the KPK through the ‘Hajar Serangan Fajar’ program urges the public to oppose and reject political practices money that can trigger corruption.
Alexander Marwata continued, it is no longer a secret that every General Election, both at the national and regional levels, is still littered with money politics.
If the public accepts money politics, this behavior can burden regional heads and people’s representatives.
Compiled from KPK data, the political costs of candidates for regents/mayors average Rp. 30 billion, while the salaries of elected regents/mayors for 5 years are below political costs.
Likewise, the political costs of becoming a governor can reach Rp. 100 billion, while for the presidential election, the costs are unlimited or unlimited.
Indeed, not all politicians engage in money politics and other fraud.
It could be that they have sponsors or have large personal assets.
However, when there is a legislative candidate who practices money politics, he is willing to take on a lot of debt so that he can be elected as a member of the legislature.
The costs of politics/democracy which are classified as very expensive can trigger regional heads/people’s representatives to commit criminal acts of corruption.
One of the costs of politics is bribery or money politics.
Therefore, the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) encourages people not to take action next year during the elections to accept something from candidates.
When these politicians corrupt to compensate for expensive political costs, the practice of corruption in Indonesia will become even crazier.
Money politics must be prevented because it will destroy the principle of an election, namely being honest and fair, when there is bribery to potential voters, they are automatically dishonest, because they choose candidates for legislative and presidential candidates who are not in accordance with their conscience.
Then, there was no justice because the election was marred by fraud and bribery by elements of the legislative candidate’s success team.
Meanwhile, a group of young people calling themselves Centennial Z declared their rejection of money politics in the 2024 elections. Chairman of Centennial Z Dinno Ardiansyah asked all parties fighting to use a rational approach to win the votes of Gen Z (the younger generation).
Dinno continued, Gen Z votes cannot be bought.
Therefore, whoever the contestants for the election will be, they must use a rational political approach.
In a sense, the members of the campaign team for candidates should not engage in money politics because currently the youth are politically savvy.
They do not want to accept money or goods because they understand that money politics is forbidden.
The younger generation already knows that the act of accepting bribes is tantamount to the practice of money politics.
They also understand that money politics can cause perpetrators to go to jail because there is a law in place.
In the Election Law (UU Number 7 of 2017) it is stated that if it is proven that the executors and the election campaign team promised or provided money or other materials in return, then they can be subject to sanctions.
Among them, can be sentenced to a maximum of two years and a fine of up to IDR 24 million.
The sanctions will be different if money politics is carried out during a quiet period, and can be jailed for a maximum of four years and a fine of up to IDR 48 million.
Meanwhile, if money politics is carried out on voting day, you can be fined a maximum of three years and a fine of IDR 36 million.
The Election Supervisory Body (Bawaslu) is the party with the authority to examine, review and decide on violations of money politics.
The public is advised to avoid money politics because it can trigger criminal acts of corruption in Indonesia.
When a legislative candidate carries out money politics and is elected as a member of the legislature, he has the potential for corruption to recoup his political costs.
Then, money politics is dangerous because it can damage the principles of elections, namely honesty and fairness.
Don’t practice money politics any more because both the perpetrator and the recipient can be punished.
