Rev. Albert Yoku: Creating Peaceful Elections Shows the Authority of the Indonesian Nation
Jakarta – Holding peaceful elections based on the principles of Direct, General, Free, Secret, Honest and Fair [Luber Jurdil] is very important because it concerns the authority of the Indonesian nation.
This was said by the Chairman of the Jayapura Religious Harmony Forum, Pdt. Albert Yoku in an interview on Radio MNC Trijaya (17/1)
“The ongoing 2024 election stages are considered to be quite good and have integrity, because they can also provide understanding to the public to choose candidates based on vision, ideas, talent and good sense,” said Rev. Albert.
This, he continued, is important so that the leaders who are elected are truly based on the results of their thoughts, not just following the wishes of other people.
He added that elections need to be carried out in religious ways, where in facing an interest you must rely on God Almighty accompanied by a calm soul and heart.
“By adhering to our respective religions, the 2024 elections can be held peacefully while also maintaining behavior, so that harmony and harmony are maintained,” said Rev. Albert.
Meanwhile, he added, there is another threat that must be jointly anticipated, namely the potential for the spread of hoaxes and fake news spread on social media in the 2024 elections is still very large. The easiest and most frequently used is the narrative of SARA and identity politics. This needs to be prevented together so as not to disrupt the course of political contestation in 2024.
Rev. Albert also described the current situation in Jayapura, Papua, where conditions in Jayapura, especially related to the 2024 elections, are still running safely in accordance with the stages that have been carried out.
“The public also seems quite enthusiastic about the 2024 elections, because they believe that the elections will provide benefits to everyone,” he said.
