Tangible Proof of Addressing 17+8 Public Demands, President Prabowo Pushes for Deliberation of Asset Seizure Bill
JAKARTA — President Prabowo Subianto continues to push for the accelerated deliberation of the Asset Seizure Bill (RUU Perampasan Aset) in the House of Representatives (DPR).
This push serves as tangible proof that both the government and parliament are genuinely paying attention to the aspirations of the people, particularly those encapsulated in the 17+8 public demands.
At present, the DPR has officially taken over the Asset Seizure Bill as a parliamentary initiative while also placing it among the priorities of the National Legislation Program (Prolegnas).
Coordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights, Immigration, and Corrections (Menko Kumham Imipas) Yusril Ihza Mahendra stressed that this marks a significant shift from a government proposal to a parliamentary-led initiative.
“President Prabowo has also repeatedly emphasized that the DPR should immediately deliberate on the bill,” Yusril said.
He added that the government has coordinated with Minister of Law Supratman Andi Agtas to ensure that the bill is included in the 2025–2026 Prolegnas priority list.
Yusril noted that the government is prepared to discuss the draft whenever the DPR submits it.
“If the initiative is indeed taken up by parliament, of course the government will wait,” he remarked.
“Once the DPR delivers the bill to the President, then the President will issue a Presidential Letter appointing the minister responsible for deliberating on the Asset Seizure Bill until it is completed,” he explained.
Meanwhile, Deputy Chair of the DPR’s Legislative Body (Baleg), Ahmad Doli Kurnia, also welcomed the move positively.
He assessed that the deliberation of the Asset Seizure Bill could proceed much faster if it originates as a parliamentary initiative.
“It’s very possible (through revising Prolegnas). Once there is an agreement between the DPR and the government, we just need to sit together, review the previous Prolegnas, and we can include it,” Doli said.
He added that Baleg is ready to prepare the academic manuscript and the bill draft in line with legislative procedures.
Minister of Law Supratman Andi Agtas reaffirmed that asset seizure has been made a government priority, in line with President Prabowo’s directive.
“Asset seizure will be a priority. As for its current status in parliament, as you know, we are now working toward approving the next Prolegnas for 2026,” he said.
The joint efforts of the government and parliament to expedite the Asset Seizure Bill stand as concrete evidence that public aspirations are truly being heard, while also demonstrating the state’s strong commitment to strengthening anti-corruption measures and safeguarding national stability.
