Jayapura – President Joko Widodo, on Tuesday (21/3/2023) inaugurated the Papua Youth Creative Hub (PYCH) building in Jayapura. The PYCH building was built as a follow-up to President Jokowi’s commitment to Papuan youth.
Built on an area of 15,000 m2, PYCH has a main building area of 3,520 m2 and 1,812 m2 of supporting buildings. The construction work was carried out by PT Nindya Karya (Persero) with consultants PT Yodya Karya (Persero) KSO PT. Mandiri Cakti Consultindo.
The construction of the PYCH building was initiated by the Head of the State Intelligence Agency (BIN), General Pol (Purn) Prof. Dr. Budi Gunawan, SH, MSi., Ph.D and President Joko Widodo, were enthusiastically welcomed by the youth and people of Papua. It is hoped that the building will also become a center for self-development of talents and creativity for young people in Papua.
In his speech at the inauguration of the PYCH building, President Jokowi said that he would provide as much space as possible for Papuan youth. This development is a follow-up to a meeting of 23 young Papuans at the Palace.
“This morning I really feel we are very proud because at that time the request of the 23 young Papuans I invited to the Palace to have a room for empowerment to improve the quality of human resources today we can see together in Papua,” said President Jokowi.
President Jokowi also assured that the construction of PYCH is the beginning of development in Papua. Jokowi emphasized that development in Indonesia is Indonesia centric, not Java centric.
“So once again I want to say that Indonesia’s development now is not Java centric, but Indonesia centric and the land of Papua is a priority for the development we are carrying out,” he said.
On the same occasion, the Head of the State Intelligence Agency (BIN), General Pol (Purn) Budi Gunawan, said, “This building is the president’s commitment to accommodate all the talents of Papuan and West Papuan children in developing their creativity.
“The inauguration of PYCH is a form of the President’s commitment to building a Papuan talent center as a driving force for Papua’s economy and prosperity,” explained the Head of BIN.
Meanwhile, one of the Papuan youth leaders who is also active in PYCH, Elia Musa Rawar expressed his gratitude to the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Ir. H. Joko Widodo and Head of BIN General Pol (Purn) Prof. Dr. Budi Gunawan, for his support for the construction of the PYCH Building.
“We thank Pak President Jokowi and Head of BIN Pak Budi Gunawan for carrying out this development,” he said.
PYCH is the result of an initiation by BIN whose job is to bring new enthusiasm for young Papuans to be able to implement their ideas and ideas for the welfare of the Papuan people. PYCH carries a mission for the welfare of the land of Papua in accordance with Presidential Instruction Number 09 of 2020 concerning the Acceleration of Prosperity in Papua and West Papua.
