World Water Forum Promotes Collaboration to Realize Inclusive and Sustainable Water Governance
The 10th World Water Forum in Bali, is one of the biggest events on the global calendar to discuss water and sanitation issues. This forum not only highlights clean water issues, but also emphasizes the important role of youth in advancing solutions for a clean water future. With the theme ” Water For Shared Prosperity ” it aims to encourage innovative ideas and active community participation in sustainable water management.

In his opening speech at the World Water Forum, President Joko Widodo highlighted the importance of paying attention to traditional water management systems, such as Subak in Bali, as an example of how local wisdom can make a valuable contribution to managing water sustainably.
President Jokowi emphasized that Subak, a traditional irrigation system that has existed for centuries in Bali, is not only a valuable cultural heritage, but also an effective model for water management and sustainable agriculture. He praised the local wisdom contained in Subak, including the principles of togetherness, community participation and joint management of natural resources.
In a global context facing increasing water sustainability challenges, President Jokowi invited us to take inspiration from Subak and other traditional water management systems around the world. He underscored the importance of combining local knowledge with modern technology and best practices in order to achieve inclusive and sustainable water management.

By empowering farmers with the knowledge and skills necessary to use water wisely, including through the use of efficient irrigation techniques and soil moisture monitoring, we can increase agricultural productivity while maintaining the sustainability of water resources.
In a global context, international cooperation is needed more than ever. President Jokowi urged the establishment of strong partnerships between countries in terms of knowledge and technology exchange, as well as coordination in the management of transboundary water resources.
Indonesia also encourages investment and new technology in efficient and sustainable water management, as well as strengthening regional and global cooperation in resolving water-related conflicts and achieving water-related Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The World Water Forum 2024 is making every effort to create an inclusive environment where youth can share their views without barriers.
