Supporting the Smooth Implementation of PON 2020 in Papua

The XX Sports Event (PON) XX in 2020 will be held in Papua. PON XX in Papua has many important meanings to introduce young Papuan talents to the international world, so that all parties are expected to support the smooth running of the event.

PON XX Papua will be held on October 20 until November 2, 2020. The national sporting party was decided to roll out 37 sports which were planned to be participated in by 47 sports. However, through various considerations Kempora-KONI cut into 37 sports namely aerosport, aquatic, fencing, weight lifting, athletics, baseball, motorized, billiards, basketball, handball, volleyball, badminton, chess, cricket, rowing, wrestling, hoky, judo, karate, kempo, screen, shooting, muaythai, archery, rock climbing, pencak silat, rugby, diving, gymnastics, soccer, soccer takraw, roller skates, taekwondo, drajat fighting, tennis, boxing, wushu.

PON XX in Papua is very important, because so far development in Papua is still lagging behind and there are still those who view the marginal Papuan community, or at number two right. PON XX is the right momentum for the Indonesian people to accelerate equitable development in Papua. Although the grand national sports week event is still a few months away, the government is increasingly keen to complete a number of projects that will be used to support PON XX in Papua. The enthusiasm of the people themselves is also visible. They are also involved in making handicrafts and souvenirs to enliven this four-yearly event.

The construction of several venues continues to be accelerated which is being carried out by the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR). As for the four sports arenas located in Jayapura Regency, namely the Aquatic and Istora Papua Bangkit venues in Kampung Harapan Sports Area, East Sentani District, as well as the Cricket arena and Hockey Field (Indoor and Outdoor) in Kampung Doyo Baru, Waibu District. The construction of Istora Papua Bangkit in Jayapura Harapan Village, Papua has reached 76.78% or faster than the schedule of 71.70%. Currently working on erection of beam D 14 / 26-28, Impact Bolt Rafter, Plumbing Work, Formwork Building for Utilities.

As the implementation time approached, the leadership of the MPR, DPR, DPD, and the Ministry of PUPR, on March 3, 2020, conducted a review at the Papua Bangkit Stadium Complex, Sentani. Present during the review were MPR Chair Bambang Soesatyo, Deputy Chairman of the DPD Sultan Najamudin, Deputy Speaker of the DPR Rachmad Gobel, Deputy Chair of MPR Lestari Moerdijat, Arsul Sani, Fadel Muhammad; DPD and DPR members from the constituencies of Papua and West Papua who are members of the MPR For Papua, such as Yorrys Raweyai, Filep Wamafma, Herlina Munib, Ruben Uamang, Willem Wandik, Trifena Tinal; and Papua’s Deputy Governor Klemen Tinal.

Bambang Soesatyo said after he observed the progress or the development of the Bangkit Papua Stadium area, he firmly said, two terrible and extraordinary words. According to him, the rapid development of the Papua PON preparation was compared to the story of Sangkuriang with his Tangkuban boat. The Revived Papua Stadium is expected to raise the name of Papua to the international scene and also encourage young people and Papuan athletes to be more enthusiastic to become champions, not only at the national level but also internationally. With that, he hopes that Papuan athletes will be more eager to make achievements at national and international levels

In addition, related to security issues, Chairman of the Republic of Indonesia Republic of Indonesia Bambang Soesatyo believes that security in Papua will be maintained and conducive until the XX National Sports Week (PON) is finished. For this reason, let us support the TNI and Polri in maintaining the conduciveness of Papua and participating in the organization of this 4th Annual Sports Week to run smoothly and benefit the nation a lot.
