Gotong Royong to Prevent Radicalism and Hate Speech
By: Ismail)*
Radicalism and hate speech are one of the main threats to the nation that can cause division. The community is asked to work together to prevent the spread of radicalism and hate speech.
Last year’s Ramadan and Eid were crowded because there was incitement from radical groups, where they did not agree with the ban on going home and other rules for worship. Even though this regulation was made for the safety of the public from Corona. Radical groups always position themselves as the opposition because they really don’t like the current government and want to make a caliphate state.
The spread of radicalism must be prevented so that people are not affected and instead defend radical groups, because it is dangerous and there will be people who will oppose the government. They should be aware of the dangers of the caliphate because it is not compatible with the conditions of the pluralistic society of this country. Democracy is the best for Indonesia and cannot be contested.
To prevent the spread of radicalism, all elements of society must work together, because united we stand and divided we fall. If everything is united then we are optimistic that radical groups can be quickly disbanded and will not rise again. The reason is because they no longer have supporters in Indonesia.
Civilians can help to eradicate radicalism because the government cannot act alone. The trick is to continue to go viral that radicalism is wrong and that it is impossible for a caliphate to be realized in Indonesia or in other countries. In addition, Indonesia has a pluralistic culture, both in terms of ethnicity and religion.
The community must participate in instilling an understanding of anti-radicalism from an early age with education at home. Children began to be introduced to the dangers of radicalism, so that they would not fall into the persuasion of radical groups. The reason is because there is currently rampant radicalism on social media and don’t let children support them because they don’t know that it is dangerous. Express that jihad is not a war against the enemy, but a war against one’s own selfishness.
The ulema also cooperate with the government to prevent the spread of radicalism. The trick is to preach gently and spread that radicalism is wrong. Tolerance must be practiced by people who are obedient to worship, because we also need to interact with those with different beliefs. If there is tolerance then Indonesia can be peaceful and prosperous.
Apart from radicalism, all elements of society need to prevent the spread of hate speech, because it can damage peace in Indonesia. Hate speech must be prevented by banning the radical preachers, because they always give passionate speeches and hate the government and speak harsh words. Whereas as preachers they should bring enlightenment, not hatred.
Videos about preachers who always make hate speech should also be blocked, and social media and video platforms must cooperate with the government. The trick is to take down the video because it can break peace in this country.
People who watch hate speech videos can also report to the cyber police, which is their job to deal with irregularities in cyberspace. Later, video publishers and video makers can be arrested for breaking the peace and violating the ITE Law, so that they face a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.
If all elements of society are united, we are optimistic that the eradication of radicalism will be maximized and they will not be found in Indonesia. All parties must be aware of the dangers of radicalism and hate speech so that they will not want to come into contact with these two things.
