The Nusantara Student Dormitory (AMN) located in Surabaya, East Java, is currently occupied by 410 students from various regions studying at tertiary institutions in Surabaya and its surroundings.

The development of AMN is a “program” with the nation initiated by the State Intelligence Agency (BIN) involving various Ministries, Institutions and Provincial Governments (Pemprov). The AMN land is prepared by the Provincial Government and construction is carried out by the Ministry of PUPR.

AMN is BIN’s real effort to increase nationalism while at the same time strengthening tolerance between ethnicities, religions and races. Nationalism and tolerance among the younger generation must be instilled from an early age from the smallest environment, namely in the family and education. However, the values of Pancasila and the awareness of diversity in diversity must continue to be implemented, especially in the campus environment, in this case for student groups.

Regarding AMN facilities and infrastructure, PUPR Minister Basuki Hadimuljono was satisfied with the development of AMN, which according to him had good quality buildings and landscapes.

“The quality of the building and landscape is satisfactory,” Basuki wrote, quoted from the PUPR Ministry website.

Head of the East Java Regional Settlement Infrastructure Center (BPPW) Directorate General of Cipta Karya, M Reva Sastrodiningrat said that the AMN, which was started in September 2021, will be completed according to estimates in May 2022.

Later, AMN will be granted and managed by the State Intelligence Agency (BIN) and the Ministry of Education and Culture (Kemendikbud).

Reva explained that AMN Surabaya consists of two building blocks five floors high with connecting walkways between the buildings. Block one is for female dormitories, while the other is for male dormitories.

“The dormitory building consists of 2 towers with a height of 5 floors with a total of 188 rooms to accommodate 528 students,” said Reva.

“Supporting facilities for student competency development were also built, such as a library/reading room, shared study room, art room, laboratory, sports field, entrepreneurship development room, and landscaping,” continued Reva.

Director of Building Management Development, Boby Ali Azhari also said that the facilities built at AMN Surabaya did not only provide housing. But it is also equipped with facilities for developing student competencies.

“Such as libraries or reading rooms, study rooms, art rooms, language laboratories, sports fields, entrepreneurship coaching rooms, gardens, and other communal spaces,” said Boby. []
