Brimob personnel sent to North Kalimantan to help restore security
The National Police Headquarters has sent two companies of Mobile Brigade (Brimob) personnel to North Kalimantan province to help restore security condition in the wake of last Saturdays arson attack on gubernatorial office.
“To provide back up in North Kalimantan, (we have sent) two more companies of Brimob personnel,” Head of the Public Relations Bureau at the National Police Headquarters Brig Gen Agus Rianto said here on Saturday.
The police have so far arrested 18 people suspected of involvement in the case. They are now being questioned.
An angry mob who is not satisfied with the result of the North Kalimantan gubernatorial election on December 9 set fire to the multipurpose room at the gubernatorial office.
The protesters who are supporters of the gubernatorial candidate pair of Jusuf SK- Marthin Bila alleged that gubernatorial candidate Irianto Lambrie and his running mate Udin Hianggio have been involved in money politics.
They also accused the local election commission of turning a blind eye to the rising number of abstainers.
According to the results of quick count, the gubernatorial candidate pair of Irianto Lambrie-Udin Hianggio takes the lead in the election.
