Lessons From the Death of Haringga Persija Fans, Fanaticism Tarnishing Indonesian Football
CIDISS. Haringga Sirla, a young man from Cengkareng, West Jakarta, lost his life when he was about to watch Persija fight against Persib at the Gelora Bandung Lautan Api Stadium (GLBA) Bandung. Haringga is one of the supporters who wants to watch his proud football club compete, but what happened to Haringga was never imagined by the family left behind, Haringga’s departure to Bandung was the last departure, Haringga died at the hands of Persib supporters, some young fans Persib fanatics beat Haringga to death at the scene.
According to the release of the local police, the incident occurred when the match had not yet begun, in the parking area there were a number of mobs chasing a young man, shouting that the Persija fans were chasing, the victims being chased had asked help from the meatballs, but what was the crowd was immediately ganging up using hard objects around the parking area of wooden beams, iron, and bottles hit, until the victim dies. The body of the deceased was then taken to Sartika Asih Hospital for an autopsy.
Sports Counselor Dianita Luschinta said that this event was the result of excessive fanaticism, which made hatred to harm others, “this is the impact of rivalry and fanaticism that plunges. West Java Regional Secretary Iwa Karniwa conveyed his deep sorrow over the death of the Persija supporters who later found out that Indramayu youths were migrating to Jakarta, “Also grieving over the lives of the perpetrators of violence at the GLBA stadium,” Iwa said, adding that the incident doesn’t only tarnish the name Persib, but the face of national football that is being built towards a better one. The hope of all lovers of homeland football, hopefully in the future there will be no more casualties due to excessive fanaticism, football is an expression of joy, not an expression of revenge or hostility.
