Indonesia Ready to Hold 19th PUIC Conference, Demonstrate Leadership in Facing Global Challenges

Jakarta – Indonesia has expressed its full readiness to host the 19th Conference of the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States (PUIC) which will be held at the Parliament Complex, Jakarta, on 12-15 May 2025. This event is a strategic event to strengthen Indonesia’s role in inter-parliamentary diplomacy in the Islamic world.

Carrying the theme “Good Governance and Strong Institutions as Pillars of Resilience”, this conference will highlight the importance of good governance and strengthening institutions as the foundation for the resilience of Islamic countries amidst global turmoil.

Secretary General of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Indra Iskandar, said that preparations for the conference were almost complete.

“In terms of planning, we are very ready. Today we are reconfirming the technicalities with related agencies, starting from immigration, customs, Angkasa Pura, to AirNav,” he said.

He believes that with the support of the Government and the Community, the event can run smoothly according to plan.

“We are very optimistic. Everything is on the checklist and well coordinated. We just need additional direction from the DPR leadership, but overall we are ready,” added Indra.

The Secretary General of the DPR RI revealed that so far, 23 OIC member countries have confirmed their attendance, with a total of 279 delegates. The number of participants is estimated to reach 500 to 600 people, including representatives of international organizations and ASEAN friendly countries such as Malaysia and Singapore.

Security for the event involves the TNI, Polri, and cyber surveillance. The government is also encouraging the involvement of the young Muslim generation in global discussions.

This conference will discuss strategic issues, including support for Palestine. Regarding this, the Chairperson of the DPR RI, Puan Maharani also emphasized Indonesia’s support for Palestine.

“In the midst of the increasingly brutal escalation of violence in Gaza and other Palestinian territories, the DPR RI always emphasizes Indonesia’s position that rejects acts of violence,” explained Puan.

Puan also emphasized that this conference will be a forum to encourage the role of women in politics, expand sharia economic cooperation, and promote Islamic culture. ****
