Jakarta – Indonesia will again become Chair of ASEAN in 2023. This year, the 42nd ASEAN Summit Summit took place in Labuan Bajo, NTT.

The Director General of Public Information and Communication, Usman Kansong said that President Joko Widodo accepted the ASEAN chairmanship relay from Cambodia to become the Chair of ASEAN 2023 on November 13, 2022.

“In line with Indonesia’s chairmanship in ASEAN, Indonesia is hosting the 2023 ASEAN Summit which will be held in Labuan Bajo, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) and in DKI Jakarta,” said Usman.

To achieve this, Indonesia must first improve its domestic economy, then the regional economy of the Southeast Asia region.

“The three pillars of the 42nd ASEAN Summit are ASEAN Matters, Epicentrum of Growth and Implementation of Outlook on Indo-Pacific (AOIP). According to the ASEAN Matters Theme: Epicentrum of Growth.” Usman explained.

Usman explained, the theme of the 2023 ASEAN Summit was the ASEAN Matters Epicentrum of Growth, meaning that Indonesia and ASEAN would become centers of economic growth in the midst of a world economic situation that was not doing well after the Covid-19 pandemic.

Previously, regarding the provision of communication infrastructure, Usman Kansong stated that support for public communication was even carried out in the form of exposure to various media.

He explained that there were around 300 to 500 journalists who would be present to cover the ASEAN Summit event live.

In addition, the Ministry of Communication and Information has also prepared digital infrastructure support and improved quality of telecommunications services during the Asean Summit. Currently the Labuan Bajo area is claimed to have covered 4G signals around 78.12 percent and at several points there is 5G signal coverage.

Usman Kansong then added that with the efforts made by the Ministry of Communication and Information, it would be able to help Indonesia achieve the three targets in ASEAN chairmanship.

The three targets are implementation success, public communication success to substance success.

“So successful implementation, successful public communication then successful substance. That substance is the target of the 2023 ASEAN Summit,” he said.
