Jakarta – The government under the leadership of President Prabowo Subianto continues to show serious commitment in handling drug trafficking in Indonesia. In a coordination meeting held at the Rupatama National Police Headquarters, South Jakarta, the Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs (Menko Polkam), Budi Gunawan, revealed three strategic steps of the government, with a focus on education and rehabilitation as an important part of the drug eradication effort.

“The full commitment of all ministries and institutions present today is to strengthen synergy in combating drugs. Intensive coordination will be carried out, both in preventive measures, law enforcement, rehabilitation, and education,” said Budi Gunawan.

A number of agencies that are members of the drug eradication desk, including the National Narcotics Agency (BNN), Ministry of Health, Ministry of Social Affairs, Ministry of Education, and various other institutions, also attended this meeting.

The first step highlighted by the government is optimizing synergy between agencies in preventive efforts and law enforcement. However, a large focus is also given to rehabilitation steps for victims of drug abuse. The government considers that the rehabilitation approach is key to helping users return to society as productive individuals.

The second step that is no less important is education. The government is committed to intensifying the campaign on the dangers of drugs through various platforms, involving community groups, students, and other groups.

Meanwhile, the government is also taking other preventive measures, such as tracing and blocking funds related to drug trafficking. In addition, the government is accelerating the study of the execution of the death penalty for drug convicts who already have a permanent legal decision.

“So that there is no more room for drug circulation controlled from within correctional institutions,” explained the minister who is familiarly called BG.

The government’s focus on rehabilitation and education is a reflection of President Prabowo Subianto’s vision to eradicate drugs not only from the aspect of law enforcement, but also through a humanist approach. The government hopes that these steps can create a drug-free generation that is more aware and productive.

Through strong synergy between agencies and massive education and rehabilitation campaigns, the government is optimistic that drug eradication efforts will have a significant impact. The fight against drugs is a priority agenda that involves all elements of the nation, in order to realize an Indonesia that is free from the threat of narcotics. [*]
