The governor of Papua, Lukas Enembe, is currently involved in a corruption case. The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) previously named him a suspect in a Rp. 1 billion gratuity case. The gratuities are allegedly related to a number of development projects from the Papua Province APBD funds. Not only that, Luke is also known to have had suspicious financial transactions with interpretation values reaching hundreds of billions.
Not long ago the KPK Investigative Team conducted an examination of the Governor of Papua, Lukas Enembe as a suspect in the alleged Rp. 1 billion gratuity case on Thursday, 03 November 2022 at 13.00 WIT. This examination lasted 1.5 hours and began with a medical examination in which the KPK Team involved 4 (four) independent specialist doctors from the Indonesian Doctors Association (IDI).
Attorney for Lukas Enembe, Aloysius Renwarin, said that the medical examination carried out by the IDI Doctors Team was to ensure the health condition of the Governor of Papua, Lukas Enembe, was really sick. Aloysius Renwarin added, the IDI Doctors Team examined Lukas Enembe starting from his blood pressure, blood pressure, and body temperature.
KPK chairman Firli Bahuri explained that his party had come to Papua in order to carry out law enforcement duties. Firli revealed that the KPK Investigative Team was already in Papua to investigate Lukas Enembe on September 12, 2022, but was hampered because hundreds of mobs had gathered around the Governor of Papua’s residence. Firli reiterated that no matter how the law enforcement process is carried out, it must still be carried out even though it carries high risks, including fighting for your life. Firli Bahuri will never allow his members to become victims. Therefore, he was present in Papua to penetrate living fences armed with machetes and arrows.
For Firli, as a leader he must carry out his duties and dare to take risks, even the toughest ones. This is a challenge that must be faced. Therefore, Firli emphasized that his arrival directly led the Investigative Team solely to carry out the main duties of the KPK as mandated in the Law.
Firli Bahuri said that the mass needs to be respected as their custom so that the investigation process is not disrupted by a group of Lukas Enembe supporters. Because according to him, the existence of the mass of Lukas Enembe is part of the adat of the Papuan people which needs to be respected so they will cooperate with government officials in the investigation process.
Firli Bahuri also said that Lukas Enembe was cooperative in the inspection process and the people of Papua highly respected the ongoing legal process so that no obstacles were found in the process of examining the Governor of Papua. In this case the examination of requests for information against Lukas Enembe was carried out both as a witness and as a suspect.
Firli Bahuri added that the examination process on Lukas Enembe in Papua went smoothly because he was assisted by Forkopimda Papua and assisted by the Regional Military Commander XVII/Cendrawasih, Major General Muhammad Saleh Musatafa; Papua Police Chief, Inspector General of Police Mathius D Fahiri; and the Head of the Papua Regional Office, Maj. Gen. Gustav Agus Irianto.
Furthermore, the KPK Investigative Team conducted searches at three locations in Jayapura City, namely the residence related to the case and 2 (two) offices of private companies. This aims to explore cases of alleged bribery and gratuities for infrastructure projects in Papua that ensnared Lukas Enembe. Of course, this examination was accompanied by a number of officials from the Papua Provincial Government.
The Head of the KPK’s Reporting Section, Ali Fikri, explained that his party had succeeded in securing various electronic evidence documents that were allegedly related to the evidence in the case. The evidence will later become a complement to the case file, which must first be confiscated and analyzed.
Ali Fikri said the next step was to openly show the results of Lukas Enembe’s examination which had been decided by the KPK, both from the Investigation Team and from the IDI Doctors Team to the public in the near future. Because, he explained, besides enforcing the law, his party highly upholds the basic principles of carrying out the KPK’s duties. KPK prioritizes public interest, is transparent, accountable, guarantees legal certainty and justice, and the implementation of human rights (HAM).
The Chairperson of the KPK and the Investigative Team and the IDI Doctors Team appreciate and thank the Governor of Papua and his family where he has given the opportunity and exercised his rights as law-abiding citizens and upholds legal procedures. According to him, 1.5 hours of examination is considered sufficient because the person concerned can provide information according to what is wanted and needed in the framework of the judicial process.
