The Papuan Separatist Terrorist Group (KST) is a group of people who like to fight and create trouble, their actions hamper the development carried out by the government. Groups such as KST, of course, cannot be ignored because their existence can hinder progress in Papua.
The existence of KST has made conditions in Papua not yet completely peaceful. KST not only attacks verbally but also acts. The attacks are also getting worse, they have the heart to destroy people’s homes and burn schools. Not only that, KST also terrorized houses of worship.
KST is a group that is not happy to see Papua’s progress, the actions of those who attack houses of worship are proof that they have no compassion for the people in Papua.
As if it has never been deterred from launching terror attacks in Papua, KST does not indiscriminately attack its targets, be they immigrants, the TNI/Polri or the Papuans themselves.
The atrocities carried out by KST were acts of violence carried out beyond reason and common sense, the attack actually proved that KST had ignored Human Rights (HAM) under the pretext of feeling persecuted and wanted to be independent and live a noble life, but in fact KST refused progress in Papua. and prolong the suffering of the people.
Along with the seriousness of the local government and the central government in carrying out development for the welfare of the people in the Papua region. However, this seriousness was actually disrupted by KST, who was proud of his mischievous and depraved actions.
One of the evidences that KST is hindering Papua’s progress is the incident in March 2022. KST attacked and shot the TNI Satgas Kodim Yonif R 408/SBH in Dambet Village, Beoga District, Puncak Regency, Papua, who was repairing a water channel, causing one of the soldiers to be injured. TNI Pratu Heriyanto was shot in the neck.
Because of KST’s brutal actions by ignoring human rights, of course AKT has become a spotlight not only in Papua and the National, but the world has condemned acts of violence that are inhumane.
On April 8, 2021, KST led by Nau Waker burned three schools, namely an elementary, middle and high school in the Julukoma village area, Boega district, Puncak Regency, Papua. This terrorist act was carried out in the afternoon after in the morning he shot and killed an elementary school teacher who was on duty at the school.
In addition, on September 15, 2022, KST also persecuted 6 health workers in Kiwirok, Bintang Mountains, Papua. The incident left 4 people injured, 1 person dead and 1 person missing.
Previously, the National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo had asked members of the National Police and TNI Soldiers to be aware of threats from KST whose activities often interfere with civil society in Papua.
The existence of KST in Papua with all its evil actions so far must have caused endless fear for local residents. It is not wrong if Papuans are inflamed and express their jealousy towards their fellow countrymen and countrymen in other regions who are allowed to enjoy the dynamics of normal life without being afraid of a sudden attack from KST.
Member of Commission III of the DPR Arsul Sani assessed that KST members in Papua are no longer committing treason, but also acts of terrorism.
He also asked that the TNI and Polri do not need to think about the impact of narratives or political framing from outside parties regarding human rights violations. According to him, Commission III of the DPR will counter these narratives.
Arsul also said that KST’s actions had crossed the line. According to Arsul, the massacres against civilians that are often carried out by KST have been included in the crimes of gross human rights violations. KST itself has tarnished the name of Papua which is known as a beautiful region. The beauty of Papua should not be damaged by the existence of KST who likes to spread terror.
Inspector General Mathius D Fakhiri as the Papuan Police Chief said that during the first 6 months of 2022, there were 44 disturbances from KST, meaning that there was no month without terror disturbances in Papua. This number increased where last year there were only 34 cases. The disturbance occurred in the districts of Intan Jaya, Nduga, Yakuhimo, Bintang Mountains, Puncak and Painai.
KST has made serious cases, such as mass murder, theft and even burning of public facilities. If there are KST members who are caught, of course they must receive severe punishment as a deterrent effect.
On the other hand, the Papuan people should not be swayed by propaganda or hoaxes from KST members which are carried out to gain the sympathy of Papuans. Firm action from the apparatus is a form of protection for Papua, not a violation of human rights or an attempt to militarize Papua.
