At 2016, The Ministry of Education and Culture (Kemendikbud) launched a policy which had invited the pros and cons, the full day school. The policy is intended to support the realization of the ideal of education is the fulfillment of general knowledge and awakening character. The years passed, how the continuation of the policy?

The policy is now no longer known as a full day school is considered misleading. The policy is now better known by the name of strengthening Character Education (KDP).

In accordance with the plans of the Minister of Education and Culture Muhadjir Effendy at the end of last year, Kemendikbud has selected a further 500 schools throughout Indonesia as a pilot of the KDP.

Advisor to the Minister of Education and Culture of Character Development field, Arie Budiman on Thursday (20/01/2017) says that there are 542 schools precisely finished pilot. The pilot program PPK was in the early stages of training form the principals-principals of selected schools.

Schools are being piloted in 34 provinces were selected based on several criteria. First, schools have already implemented the curriculum of 2013. Secondly, based on location, each province should be represented.

In addition to selected schools Kemendikbud, the number of 542 schools already included schools that volunteered to become pilot schools. Schools that have not only located in urban areas. In fact, according to Arie, the schools that are in remote areas are given special attention or priority.

According to Arie there are several training modules that we provide to the principal. One of them is how they can create a situation of school a comfortable and enjoyable for students.

On the implementation of the CO program students will be given the addition of school hours. Formal lessons done for half a day and the rest is filled by activities that promote character development. Can through extracurricular or curricular.

Arie also said that for their course nothing new. Only every subject in the schools should be strengthened with the practices of the formation of character. Formation of these characters in its build-in in every subject, extracurricular and curricular activities.

Schools are also expected to collaborate with other parties such as museums, cultural centers, government offices, and NGOs. Able to collaborate visits for study tour or to bring these parties to share knowledge in school.

After 542 schools being piloted at the end of 2016, this year Kemendikbud targeting 9,800 schools become pilot of the KDP.

Hopefully with the new government policy that is strengthening Character Education program (PPK) which was enacted in pilot schools having success, so that eventually all schools in Indonesia enact such programs in order to realize a better Indonesia, especially in the field of education.
